He was asked, he said they had both run themselves ragged and needed fresh legs.

Which is fair enough

I find it hard to be too annoyed to be honest. Previously I've been too critical of him not being brave enough with substitutions but today he swapped both strikers and also brought Allen on when JCS went down injured (again btw, but that's for another thread).

It didn't work, and I would have liked to see Gyökeres play with Godden as I think they are our two best strikers, but at least he had a crack at changing it. We played well, but at the time I could see the legs were starting to go. I think the game changing might have been inevitable anyway. That all makes sense as the intensity the game was played at was a level above today. At least in my opinion anyway. Frustrating we lost, but I think we've proved we can be a respectable championship outfit with a little more work.

He doesn't have to , he said it didn't work .. I'm not sure what else he had to say ?

Sorry ?

Would there be anything wrong with saying that he had made a bad call?
Just saying that the subs didn't work leaves it with the players.
Some humility would be nice, he's just a man doing his best, nobody is going to crucify him for it.

Not sure I'm looking for him to apologise for anything really , he did what he thought was right for the team and like he said it didn't work

I agree, it's all very well in hindsight but in the moment if both of them are flagging you have to make that decision. Would be far worse to lose them to injury longer term. He admits it didn't work as he wanted. And I'm sure he'll learn from that himself not sure he needs to say much else

Personally, I would be looking to every staff member at CCFC, whatever their role, to have the kahunas to say they have cocked up. The manager is no different.

It’s certainly not something I’d beat him up about. And Walker and Godden and Allen and other players do need to take their responsibility.

Nobody disagreed with the changes on the match thread

I actually think we might have been better playing 1 striker today and 2 attacking midfielders

But no bother , we played quite well and arguably deserved something

Was shocked we didn’t start the box with Allen same as Blackpool away but robins maybe seen something in QPR to go with the 2

To be fair I think myself and at least Nick questioned it as odd. At least Gyo was strange. Think everyone got the fresh legs bit, but clearly Gyo was playing well again, so it seemed strange nonetheless. I would be more angry if he got injured anyway!

He doesn't make mistakes and is on the wrong side of luck.

Glad we've sorted that out :)

A totally fucked Gyokeres, is still better than Walker!
We were finished as an attacking force once Gyo went off, we need to find a suitable partner for him, because it certainly aint Waghorn.

People spend years complaining we don't have 4 good strikers and have no good options off the bench and when we finally have a set of good strikers they complain about using 2 of them off the bench 🙄

We are so much stronger up front than last season, we need to make use of that.

It was a gamble, it didn't pay off. Another day it could have. No need to point fingers and say Robins needs to own up for his error.

What 4 gives us imo is the opportunity to play the onesie form. That has to be Viktor and probably with Godden.

I fully expected Allen to come on for a striker and go Gyokeres as loan striker. An extra man in midfield could have helped prevent both their goals where there seemed to be far too much time/space in midfield

The “mistake” wasn’t necessarily taking Gyo off, particularly if he had a shoulder niggle or similar - the problem is that we haven’t got a physical striker on the bench or indeed in the squad.

A couple of decent high balls were sent to Walker who let the ball bounce rather than try to bring down as Gyo would. Small margins as I’ve said before.

Similarly, the great corners that Hamer is sending in would benefit having a big unit in the box to cause problems.

Now, there’s a big fella just down the road at Solihull Moors. 6 foot 9 Kyle Hudlin. Scores lots of goals. Wouldn’t have to move house and would be an excellent option to have in the bench. Imagine being an opponent team manager and having to factor that in to your game plan? If I were MR I’d keep telling him to warm up from 45 mins onwards - keep them guessing on the other side. Things like that would alter the mindset of what subs to bring on - what players to leave on etc.

Just my opinion.

Apparently Man City are scouting Hudlin. If they buy, we can loan perhaps.

I agree we are certainly more equipped up front this season but the goals tally with missed chances are once again costing us...Hopefully we start converting some of the chances created before our confidence dips
