Robins on Gyokeres (11 Viewers)

The “mistake” wasn’t necessarily taking Gyo off, particularly if he had a shoulder niggle or similar - the problem is that we haven’t got a physical striker on the bench or indeed in the squad.

A couple of decent high balls were sent to Walker who let the ball bounce rather than try to bring down as Gyo would. Small margins as I’ve said before.

Similarly, the great corners that Hamer is sending in would benefit having a big unit in the box to cause problems.

Now, there’s a big fella just down the road at Solihull Moors. 6 foot 9 Kyle Hudlin. Scores lots of goals. Wouldn’t have to move house and would be an excellent option to have in the bench. Imagine being an opponent team manager and having to factor that in to your game plan? If I were MR I’d keep telling him to warm up from 45 mins onwards - keep them guessing on the other side. Things like that would alter the mindset of what subs to bring on - what players to leave on etc.

Just my opinion.

Apparently Man City are scouting Hudlin. If they buy, we can loan perhaps.

They’re marketing him very well given he’s been on the bench for Solihull in both games this season!

No offence to the lad but I think his representatives may be around more for the ‘Britain’s tallest footballer’ stories than his ability

Looks a real prospect, notwithstanding the level obviously!
He is only 21 and i like that all the goals were different. He also seems to never give up, a few of those goals were from deflections or when the other team had given up thinking the game would be stopped for a foul etc.... but he played to the whistle.
Would not cost a lot, i would assume if Man City want him it's to loan out and make money from him (if it's true they want him and not just his agent bullshitting).
The number of times we create chances and are a couple of mm from contacting with them, from his video due to his height he would be there to tap in or connect with the header, plus he follows in and goes for the lose ball.
If the price is right, we should go for him.
Development squad and if he reaches his potential he could be a bargain (or if Man City interest is true, maybe that's why we are not as we can't compete).

Could be on the bench due to a possible move and not wanting to get injured.

I think that MR is still trying to figure out which combination of strikers will work best. I don't think it was a poor decision to bring them both on. We have paid money for 3 and Waghorn has experience, so it makes sense he would be confident any of the 4 could have scored. I think he also wanted to get Godden more game time to get him up to fitness. Once Godden is more match-fit, I imagine he and Vik will start most games. At some point, we have to hope that chances turn into goals.

So being tall is now more important than having any footballing ability???
If he was half decent he'd be playing for Solihull, not sat on their bench!!!
Surely we should look at the guy who's keeping him sat on the bench first!!!
Honestly, you just couldnt make this shit up!

No he was on the bench before that, looking at it he’s only started about half the games at Solihull
His name seems to have been going around for about 2 years, but with non league cancelled last season he lost a season to prove himself. If he is wanted i understand not playing him every game in case he gets injured and just enough to keep clubs interested.
For a non league club, whatever they could get could set them up for years.

Are you on the wind up? No one is saying that.

Do you honestly think we would be talking about a Solihull reserve player if he wasnt 6'9" ?

When have we ever discussed a Solihull reserve before?
Never, but they have never had a player who might help us, don't tell me if he is trained the right way he can't help. It's the only reason Man City are apparently after him.

Lots of tall players do nothing in the game, but he seems composed. Did you see his back heal goal? you don't attempt them, never mind score them if you don't have confidence in your ability.

He reminds me of Max, (scores from 30 yards out, cheeky back heals etc, but only 21).
I would guess minimal cost and if he worked out would be worth a lot in a few years.
If he doesn't work out, what have we lost?

Just watched more of his goals, very few headers (Crouch, young version anyone?)
also read last season was his first at level 05, he signed for them from level 07 and was the joint top scorer in fewer games. Remember he is only 21 so joined Solihull Morrs at 19.

Birmingham had 6’7” Kevin Francis back in the day. He’d cause opposition management headaches whenever he played.

I’d sign Hudlin and get him in the training ground for days on end practicing corners with Gus. Big fella at nearpost and in front of their goalie. Goalie won’t be able to just pluck it or punch it for fear of giving a pen, big fella either nods in or flicks on.

I know it’s all conjecture but having that option is just another string to our bow.

He is not even a regular starter for Solihull Moors - as I said his representatives are doing a fine job of ‘marketing’ him. Would they be around if he was 6’0”? The cynic in me thinks probably not

If he was 6’0” he wouldn’t cause as many headaches for goalkeepers and opponent managers so the question is irrelevant; I’ll answer it though, OBVIOUSLY NOT.

Similarly, nor would Peter Crouch had the same career if he wasn’t 6’7”. 6,9” strikers playing at a half decent level don’t come around too often.

He’s 21, and has better development potential than many others and is a local-ish lad. He’s worth looking at IMHO

Let’s leave this. If he gets signed by a decent league club and does well then we can reflect then.

There are lots of posters on here who level criticism but don’t venture any kind of sensible solution. Bit sad really.

Better development potential than which others? Non league strikers?… those already at CCFC?

Why dont we just send our talent scouts to watch the local basketball league? Plenty of young tall fuckers there!

But seriously, do you honestly think we havnt had Solihull and all the other local non league teams watched? Do you think we arnt aware of him?
I'm sure he will get picked up by some "lump it long" league 2 team eventually.

He is being kept out of the side by our former target in League 2 Danny Newton and a 22yo who was last at Weymouth Andrew Dallas

Fair enough.
Personally, I would be looking to every staff member at CCFC, whatever their role, to have the kahunas to say they have cocked up. The manager is no different.
I don’t understand your reasoning, it’s the managers call but up to the players who came on to deliver.

Really? Some players get overlooked by their local big team scouts. I’ll offer Sam McCallum as an example. Don’t you think he was watched?

Basketball players 🙄.Great chat.

I’ll stick to my guns, a local 6’9” player would be a good fit in our great youth development set up and in future be a handy asset to have in the squad.

He could go to league 2, but won’t have the same opportunity to develop as he would here.

(waits for laughing emojis)

So no manager ever makes a bad tactical call then? It's entirely down to the players to perform?

i have no idea if this guy is any good or not
The last time we bought a player off the bench of a non league team, he did ok albeit in league 1 and 2
Chris stokes -

I do not think our team is set up for a 6 foot 9 target man however, unless he has attributes, to hold the ball up, run the channels and bring others into play

Biamou was a non league signing after Stokes and 25% of his appearances at Sutton were from the bench - Stokes was only on the bench at forest green as he’d fell out with the hierarchy. He’d turned down pro contracts as they didn’t pay enough

Stokes was a regular starter and so was Biamou like Grendel said

I've seen Hudlin play a few times & he's got lots of decent attributes but is very, very raw. He's got a very deft touch & the comparison to Crouch is a pretty decent one in that he's better with his feet than you might expect.

He's competing with some very decent non league strikers at Solihull in Newton, Rooney & Dallas & it'll be a good test for him to try & establish himself in that group.

I can't see any scenario where a Premier League or Championship team takes him & expects him to make an impact immediately, he's played very little football at any serious competitive level. Would be interested to see if he can make an impact at League 2 or even lower League 1 level though.

yes it is down to the players on the pitch and as for apologising it’s a preposterous thought process. A manager is there to make decisions and by and large our manager gets it right more than most.

Gosh this is big news... I hear TV pundits criticize managers decisions all the time, and all along they have been wrong to do so. I will give Sky a call straight away and point this out, they will undoubtedly want to make some sackings! :ROFLMAO:
