Farage needs a bullet in the cranium.
See now Neil has left the sinking ship the Spectator is putting the boot into Farage over his antisemitism. Wonder why they waited so long, he's been pushing the tropes fro years.

I kind of agree... as long as they don't try and define what Britishness is.
I can think of lots of examples of shows made by PSBs that are obviously British, nothing springs to mind that isn't. Seems like they're trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist and in a way that will be virtually impossible to define.

See, I'm reading it as a shorthand for 'distinctive'. Not sure Drag Race UK or whatever counts as that. (That's not, incidentally, to say there shouldn't be some kind of drag type show, but importing the format is maybe not the way to go).

Married at First Sight and Masterchef also both diverged from their initial kind of 'British' type style, to be just another in a global format, so you can't really tell if you're watching a UK or Australian version.

Is it travelling to the other side of the world to eat a kangaroos anus live on TV without permission from your political party forcing them to remove the whip from you on return. Bang goes the political career.

What? She’s now the culture secretary.

There's also an issue of funding. It's all well and good them citing the likes of Dr Who and Downtown Abbey as the type of programs they want. PSBs don't have the funding to fill the schedule with programs like that, they need the cheap crap to fill the rest of the Tim.

Fortunately ITV are commercial, so kangaroo anus is probably safe.

I don't disagree they need more cash. Not sure Fisher is required to binge too much on TV mind you.

Nick Ferrari highlighted Clarksons Farm on Amazon as something very British made by a US TV company.

Channel 4 has an excellent British drama on right now. Help, staring the excellent Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham. It’s basically a drama about how the Tories shit on care homes during the pandemic. I wonder if that’s what he meant.

The BBC in its current form won’t last in the 21st century, I think no matter how much I hate to think that it’s probably true. Broadcast TV has maybe 20 years left. We should be thinking about how to keep what’s best of it when that happens.

Shows like Dr Who, Downton Abbey, Great British Bake Off, Top Gear, The Bodyguard and Planet Earth were given as examples of popular British TV shows which “reflect Britain and British values”.

This is just the laziest, most patronizing bollocks. They could have just come out and said "We want more shows with posh old white people"

I don't know why you're even discussing it, it's an obvious attempt to trigger some people so their base can rouge up about the other side being un-British and we can have another nice culture war.

Ignore them

Sitting in Limbo is another good BBC drama about a British story. The Windrush scandal. More specifically it’s about this guy Anthony Bryan: ‘My Windrush drama won a BAFTA but I still haven’t received compensation’
Now in another scandal because he still hasn’t received his compensation from the first scandal.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but J P Morgan Chase are the people chosen to help advise over C4's future.

The huge banking giant and uber capitalists.

I think we know why...

Well Gove has a full agenda, Grenfell, fire safety etc, wonder how all those families involved and all the apartment/flat mortgage holders will fair ?
Just on the news revealed a document that was quite damning of fire safety of modern buildings.

The ministry of Housing put out that the testing method was experimental Lol, don't pay much heed to it.

This really should be a constant attack line for labour.
It's an embarrassment.

I’ll celebrate when bendy bananas come back.

Being serious though this is absolutely pointless. We decimalised in 1971. Basically anyone under 45 (about 60% of the population, err sorry I mean 6/10ths) had been educated in weights and measurements in decimals.
