He was poor first half, didn’t know where to run, playing RB not RWB, leaving his man in space and not getting tackles in, missing easy passes, not beating men, a few poor crosses and that terrible shot. He’s also just not very lovable is he?

Got a lot better and showed why we signed him second half. The idea Dabo won’t get in ahead of him is laughable though. Dabs is a different level.

don't agree with that at all, he wasn't that bad first half and he's getting better every half he plays.

As for not being lovable, people have probably based that on what went on at QPR, as long as there's no repeat here then there's no issue for me.

I agree about him getting in ahead of Dabo but as I said on another thread, Dabos absence isn't now the crisis it once was.

Nah he just comes off as a bit of a prick, nothing to do with QPR, just both in interviews and on the pitch he’s a bit of a nob.

He’s a decent backup and in some games offers a change to Dabo. I finally saw something that once he’s up to speed with how we play he’ll be an asset. First half he wasn’t playing people in, seemed to get his head down and run into dead ends rather than look up and keep possession. His crossing when it’s good is much better than Dabos, but so is Dacostas, it’s consistency. I have the same issue with Maatsen though, silly floated balls to no one. Kane’s got about ten times the assists compared to Dabo over his career so I’m sure it’s just rustiness in his case. Question is can he shake that off if he’s not a regular starter. Dabo fits the team so much better at the moment for me, much smarter passing, drives past players better, better defensively, just the end product. If we could stick Kane’s end product on Dabo we’d have one hell of a WB.

Before Millwall he hadn’t started since March. Dabo’s moment of madness is the only reason he’s starting despite not being up to speed. You do seem quick to write players off I think.

Who says I’ve written anyone off?

There’s this weird thing on here where if you’re not saying someone is perfect every game you think they should be on the scrap heap.

Who cares if he’s a prick? If he gets an assist every game and plays well every game does it matter? Aslong as it doesn’t effect squad moral and the performances don’t drop 👍

Dabo was poor in the first half he was sent off in. Couldn't pass wind that half. Kane was poor first half last night but he was brilliant in the second, the cross for the goal was brilliant, if he puts in a 75+ minute display next game similar to the second half, I'm not sure Dabo will be back in the team any time soon.

I know that sentiment pretty well myself. But with Waghorn, Moore and Kane it felt like you had already decided they’d be crap before they’d played. In all 3 cases they were rusty on arrival so can’t be properly judged till that’s shaken off.

All started crap 🤷🏻‍♂️

There’s some on here that only ever say every player is brilliant then act like geniuses and start throwing abuse around when they have a good game.

When a player is crap I’ll say they’re crap, when they’re good I’ll say they’re good. I don’t hold grudges and I’m not a simpleton that has to say every players brilliant like I’m a JSB in his first season. Just call things how I see em.

My point is you have to wait before making that judgment. There’s a difference between saying someone had a poor game and recognising that they’re not fully up to speed yet so allow them to do that before criticising their efforts.

The magnificent Dabo being a moron against Cardiff has made us start someone who isn’t fully match sharp and has just got through the door.

Kane and Dabo complete each other. He makes up for Dabo’s lack of decent crosses. Maybe play them both and hope nobody notices.

Dont get this sorry.

If a player plays badly just come on an post “can’t mention that I’m sure they’ll get better” for what? Their first ten games?

Sometimes established decent players have a stinker too, how many free pass games does a player get exactly?

I’ll just stick with: player plays well I’ll say they played well player plays badly I’ll say they played badly I think. Seems a lot easier.

Anyway, if you read my posts where apparently I was lagging Kane off I said “I’m not saying he won’t get better it takes a lot of players time to get to our level, just he was awful there”.

Just another run away SBT meme this.

Waghorn was pretty poor first 3 games. I said as much but also said he looked like he was carrying a lot of rust and hadn’t given up on him improving once that was gone.

I haven’t said Kane was brilliant either, the shot was comical and yes he showed some hesitation first half in advanced areas. But he arrived on deadline day having been in the QPR bomb squad for 6 months, so I get why he isn’t all there yet.

Whereas you described him as ‘awful’ at Millwall which to me just beggared belief

Not very good at judging potential then, just current performance.

Stop it Shmmeee you’re just embarrassing yourself at this point

There’s saying ‘I don’t think x played well’ and there’s deciding x is a waste of a signing before he’s kicked a ball then working back from the conclusion. With Moore at least he’s played so well that there was no other option but to backtrack completely

Players play badly for all sorts of reasons. There’s always an excuse.

Take it the other way, Hyam, who I generally don’t rate, was outstanding yesterday and really made me question my judgement that he’s not up to upper championship level. That said it was against a L1 team.

Walker, who I like a lot and on paper would have as our second striker has been poor when he’s been on this season and is making me question whether he’s up to it. Though he thrives on service and our final ball has been the one thing I think we need to improve this season.

The idea that I write players off is a nonsense. I might value different things in players (especially wing backs), but I don’t write anyone off.

Not sure if your first sentence is allowing you to be objective here Shmmeee?
In fact I don't want to alarm anyone but we most likely will be looking to make a sale either in Jan or next summer.
This nafty bit of business may make that exiteer Dabo IMO.

Also frivolous observation re your username.
It's only just occurred to me that the sh part has Dutch connotations, I'm wondering how so at least ten year prior to being with the Dutch lady lol, Shmoking? 🤔😉

Firstly, don’t let me GF hear you say about the “sh” thing. They don’t get why people think they talk like that at all.

Username was picked years ago as generic internet username. It’s a bastardisation of “it’s me”.

Yeah I’m sure a players personality has an effect. Bit like Ronaldo V Messi when it’s hard to like Ronaldo.

He wasn’t awful at Millwall though. Maatsen was the one they were targeting and he looked a lot more uncomfortable.

Look at what you wrote when those 3 were signed, Moore especially. Then after a few pre season games you saw that as confirmation we had the ghost of Michael Quirke between the sticks. Whether you mean it or not it looks to me and others like you pass judgment way too quickly

What I wrote was that Moore was a gamble because he hadn’t played for ages and had never consistently performed at this level. And he was terrible first few games. Once he settled in he’s been outstanding, happy to hold my hands up on that one.

It’s not like some on here with Sheaf or Maatsen where they decided hes shit and spend an entire season downplaying everything they do.

I don’t buy the idea that teams play down one side because they’re targeting a player as opposed to that’s where they happen to play down. We played down the right a lot at times because Dabo and Hamer were on that side, not because all the opposition LBs were crap. And as I’ve been over many times I see WBs as midfielders primarily not defenders. 3412 not 5212.
