I just don't get why just because the cost of gas goes through the roof they feel like it applies to all other forms of energy production /transport etc

There is no shortage of petrol right?
Of course I'd understand if it were to meet green criteria, I may be conflicting my point Lol

The problem has been successive governments have used fuel duty, car tax etc as a general public sector spend pot rather than focussing its use on public transport infrastructure, which has only recently started to improve. With you here but not sure about the later , people like there own secure personal space , it's unfortunately not in the British psyche to act altruistically in unison, just about everyone feels they're above it and unique in their view and needs

That’s a very fair point. Numerous times I’ve wanted to go somewhere by public transport, but the wait/cost has put me off. You can’t really start ratcheting drivers if you don’t give them somewhere to move to.

As I've suggested, move tax away from the arbitrary figure that is profit and do it on stuff like dividends and interest.

Never understood why businesses get to use profit to work out tax but people have to have it on gross income. Fucked up thinking.
