First chunk in Robins impenetrable armour? (8 Viewers)

I thought he was playing as a 10. About 5 minutes to go O’Hare was trying to pick ball up in front of the defenders. All a mess

I don't think he really knew, just kind of got thrown on.

At one point he was back in line with Hamer, then him and O'Hare were in the same space.

The other issue was that as soon as Jones came on, Swansea brought on their number 4.

The issue was the midfield.

Both Allen and O'Hare would push up and we would lose it, they would instantly go on the counter attack which left Hamer outnumbered.

Usually when we have Sheaf or Kelly and Hamer then they can go side to side and help fill in with the wing backs a bit.

Fuck knows why he thought it was a good idea to throw Jones in, give him 10 minutes when we are easily winning games like other teams too.
That isn't an issue when you're chasing a game, it's something you put up with

Not really - Robins doesn't rate him and he's 4th choice - the extension of Goddens contract was totally illogical but very telling

Its the same with Rose, he won't get a look in especially if Clarke Salter is required to play games as per a loan agreement - Hyam is undroppable

I don't think Goddens contract extension was illogical bar maybe the length of it. He had a great season in L1 with us, last season was hampered by injuries in our first season of getting used to the step up and this season has scored 1 in 2 coming back from injury.

He's proved he can score at this level so is good to have as one of 4 strikers. Same as Walker. Two decent strikers will have to sit on the bench.

Yep, Hamer spent the whole game in midfield on his own being outnumbered while Allen just ran around all over the place getting bypassed
And some gave him a 7 out of 10 for the few good touches passes he did.

The chink in his armour has always been in game management. He decides how he wants to approach a game tactically and almost steadfastly refuses to veer from that plan. Subs are often like for like and made far too late.

I don't know if it's because he doesn't trust the players to be able to alter their play, if he can't think on his feet in a game situation or he's just overly cautious and reluctant to change things as he's got a firm belief that what he's planned will work eventually.

Hamer was knackered with 15 minutes to go. Should have been subbed.

Stay calm, we are 4th and punching above our rank.
Hamer, O’Hare and the forwards were poor last night IMO, running on empty and in Hamer‘s case an early booking ended his positive contribution, as it tends to happen once booked. I don’t think he’s brilliant.
A night where Kelly should have been in. Gyokeres is not on his game at all. Moore was shaky possibly because of what was going on in front of him.
A night where the 2nd goal was offside and the officials were poor, the linesmen had no idea about who should get throw ins and there were several foul throws from both teams and the ref was inept throughout.
Win on Saturday and we are back on track.

We are not punching above our rank - that is a cop out

Robins has been here for what ? Over 230 matches maybe more ..
If last night was the first time you felt Robins had got it wrong tactically then I don't know what to say ..

We've lost a fair few games in 4 years.

Fortunately his tactics have overall contributed to continual progress over 4 years ... that's all any club can ask for ..

Moving on

no league position at this stage ?

Doesn't matter what other clubs do though does it ? We finish 8th and Blackpool or Huddersfield finish above us we've still had a good season haven't we ? Our season isn't based on what these clubs do

We finished 16th last year , I'd like us to finish top half and hopefully be In a position to have a crack at the last couple playoff spots in the run in

Our league position is 4th and we are well into the season. There is no reason why our form and results should decline. If we are still in the top 6 by December how are we over achieving against other teams?

This season is likely to be the one chance we have of somehow getting to the Premier League - its obviously through the play offs but we could easily implode next season. Its a league where teams can beat anyone other than those in the top three. The Sisu PR is effective to manage expectations to low levels but it needs to be challenged and in January we really will see how much she "loves" the club.

if we are still in top 8 with 3/4 games to play and chance of play off I would be more than happy

Okay I like a cop out. Of course you expected us to in 4th. Well done Nostradamus.
We know you hate Robins and want him gone.

No one expected 4th at the start of the season - but we are and we are well into the season

Why do you think Robins will show a lower points per game for the rest of the season versus last season. Are you saying this is a fluke and we have been lucky?

Confusing. Its you who seems to have no faith in Robins not me

I hate to say I told you so, but ...
I've been saying for a few weeks that our tactics away from home have been wrong, but few agreed.
I even pointed out what the opposition do to create an overload in midfield.
But last night was about 2 piss poor pieces of defending, not much any manager can do if one of your centre halfs cant deal with a simple ball into the area.

Grendel , I explicitly remember you saying this before , I'm pretty sure under Mowbray and probably under Robins first year back in league 1 .. you've definitely said " this is our only chance to get out this league " before ,and we both know that isn't true .

If you are expecting promotion and truly believe its our only chance, you might well be left disappointed

Robins does and tends to make late subs but sometimes I get it, because games are tight.
He has his flaws but what I would say is that he’s learning too alongside our players and the fact we’re 4th tells me he’s gets things more right than wrong.

The massive key here for me is, let’s not get too carried away with a win and too disheartened with a defeat. It’s the championship, it’s bonkers. Lets roll with it because progress is being made

I think we are punching above our weight. I believe Robins is a great manager for us and no we are not lucky, just delivering a better than expected points tally to date. Will it continue? personally I don’t expect it to.
Faith in Robins is not the same as wanting him gone old chap. At least you are consistent.

What I found frustrating last night was certainly the lack of earlier substitutions but also everyone knows how Swansea play ( the gamesmanship linked to high press and workrate) but we still looked to play the same way as always. The opposition playing the way they did cut down space, put pressure on us all over the pitch. Swansea are a decent team with good game management partly based on bending the rules as far as possible. We don't have those sort of players, no one got in the ref and linos ear like the Swansea players. We are too nice and not a little naiive

Leaving aside the first 12 minutes we tried for the next 78 minutes to force the ball based on slow lumbering build up. We were crying out for real pace able to run behind the Swansea defence. We don't have that speed and in some of our players we don't have it mentally either. Am thankful we got some grip to stop it being another Luton but the passing wasn't sharp, too often inaccurate, players disappeared in the game, didn't seem to play or be comfortable in the positions they were supposed to be in.

Swansea caused part of it but I don't think I was surprised by what they did, so you have to assume MR and his team weren't. But we didn't have a plan to deal with it other than play the same way. It didn't work and never really looked like working

The officials added to a frustrating night. They were pretty dire, what was needed was strong officiating but we got errors and acquiescence of gamesmanship. Not good enough but it is becoming a recurring thing in this division.

Well yes you are right - we did get out of the league following the Mowbray year of capitulation- we went to the level below and had to start all over again

Your expectations are wrong, we’re not punching above our weight

In this division this season top 6 is genuinely on

First chink? Weren’t we 8th or 9th on boxing day in league 2 and didn’t we have a pretty difficult first half of the season after that?

I disagree, doesn’t mean I am wrong.

I’d respectfully say you are- look at results and the table. At this stage our expectation must be to stay near the top.

I’d also massively doubt that Robins himself expects to start dropping down the table

This does have the same feeling as the Mowbray - Armstrong/Murphy season. I don't think we will have a better chance than this season to push for promotion.
