Most people did follow the rules is the thing. Perhaps why some are more angry than others. I know I didn’t have a 40th birthday party because of lockdown and definitely didn’t have a work Christmas do.
They didn’t though. A lot did but not most. After first lockdown adherence dropped and there was far more residential mixing in future lockdowns. During Mid Feb ‘21 onwards mixing was even above baseline even though we were still in lockdown until early March.
We analysed mobility data provided by almost one million people in England between January 2020 and May 2021, seeking to understand trends in residential visits during the pandemic.

I’ve also read other studies about compliance. Even at its peak I think it was something like 55% admitted total adherence, less for key workers. Even then I wonder whether everyone surveyed being honest or fully knew the rules ? I bet if you start be breaking that down to younger, lower risk age groups, total compliance would’ve been a lot lower
So, I agree loads are annoyed, but most aren’t whiter than white. If it was a big Christmas party held, I will be pissed off. The after work gatherings of people who worked together anyway, Im not impressed but can’t say I’m going to get too upset....and that picture earlier
Ps for information I totally complied for around 10 weeks until around Queens jubilee (late May) even though I lived alone. Not even a walk outside with friends. I was worried about putting pressure on nhs unnecessarily. Since then I’ve made my own judgement calls
