I’m aware of nurses, doctors, teachers and various other people that were breaching the rules to varying extents. I know I also did over Xmas.

I agree that there should rightly be anger at the rule makers breaching rules but as I’ve mentioned above/before there are varying levels, some far more serious than others. People like Ferguson, Hancock, Cummings etc who drove policy being worst hypocrites of the lot

Most people did follow the rules is the thing. Perhaps why some are more angry than others. I know I didn’t have a 40th birthday party because of lockdown and definitely didn’t have a work Christmas do.

They didn’t though. A lot did but not most. After first lockdown adherence dropped and there was far more residential mixing in future lockdowns. During Mid Feb ‘21 onwards mixing was even above baseline even though we were still in lockdown until early March.

I’ve also read other studies about compliance. Even at its peak I think it was something like 55% admitted total adherence, less for key workers. Even then I wonder whether everyone surveyed being honest or fully knew the rules ? I bet if you start be breaking that down to younger, lower risk age groups, total compliance would’ve been a lot lower

So, I agree loads are annoyed, but most aren’t whiter than white. If it was a big Christmas party held, I will be pissed off. The after work gatherings of people who worked together anyway, Im not impressed but can’t say I’m going to get too upset....and that picture earlier 🤷‍♂️

Ps for information I totally complied for around 10 weeks until around Queens jubilee (late May) even though I lived alone. Not even a walk outside with friends. I was worried about putting pressure on nhs unnecessarily. Since then I’ve made my own judgement calls

Yeah it’ll be the cost and the political fallout, plus there would need to be a conversation about being inclusive of unionism.

I don’t really see how you integrate people whose identity has just been erased at the ballot box. When the Free State was formed the unionists in the South just upped and left, who knows what those in a UI actually do.

What’s clear to me is it wouldn’t be happening or even on the table if Westminster governments over the years had given a damn about the place and not just hoped for it to sort itself out.

That’s why it’s such an issue and not as straightforward as is being claimed on here in terms of the vote.
I agree, the British government couldn’t care less about the north of Ireland - I’m all for reunification.

Let's face it, the huge majority of them will be hypocritical bellends when they can try and make things political.
To be fair they've probably had to do a lateral flow and show their covid passport to attend that. I had to a when I went to watch the Charlatans over at the o2 academy in Birmingham 4-5 weeks ago way before Boris introduced the new rules.

Yeah but then again are you also saying how unsafe you feel because of other political people aren't wearing them?

Yeah but that doesn't fit Nick's narrative.

Looks like the campaigning to replace Johnson is gathering pace.

Not really. Her attempts to impersonate thatcher are pathetic.

Too much of a Republican for you, I'd guess.

At least when Thatcher turned up in a tank she did it when there was some risk and everyone thought she was barking mad. Truss is a publicity seeking Pygmy by comparison

We’re in a weird situation where Boris needs to go and you look at the Tory benches and the only person I see on them who doesn’t completely strike fear into me at the prospect of taking over is ex PM Theresa May.

Seriously. Who else is going to be an improvement on Boris? Which is in itself a shocking question given how low the bar currently is.

We were in an odd position in the leadership contest, where Jeremy Hunt seemed an ideal PM, and someone you'd feel the health service was safe under.

That's just how low we've sunk(!)

Do you mean the same Jeremy Hunt who called for the NHS to be replaced with a US style insurance system in Direct Democracy: An Agenda For A New Model Party?

There must be someone with half a brain among the back benchers, perhaps one of the northern ones who owe him their seat. In truth though I think Gove must be the favourite as he does at least seem the most intelligent

Funny, we moan now about pandemic rules being broken by attending events, drinks, kissing etc but someone who took us to war without evidence and continues to lie about, killing people unnecessarily and spending billions it is given even greater status in the honours list, it’s incredible

It's the same system that's facilitated both.
