I knew you were a teacher @Ian1779 but didn't realise in Maths. I have an issue with the curriculum that my daughter his going through, which must frustrate the hell out of you as a teacher.

The curriculum moves at such a pace to cram everything in, that they move on before some basic aspects have been fully grasped. The gaps mean they struggle further on. With the exception of one teacher (who was so good it was like day and night) most seem less than bothered as they have a schedule to get through. Such a shame. We do what we can, but she complains at our dinosaur methods and won't have it that if you can get the correct answer it will ultimately be more important. Some great online tools we've discovered too, but I sympathise with my daughter and the teachers to an extent who have their targets to hit. It appears far more complicated and unnecessary than when I was learning albeit a lifetime ago.

Good to know you have a passion for Maths, proving we do at least have one more thing than our football team in common, being poles apart on so much else :) I do have a tiny claim to fame as one of the very youngest people alive with an O'level, taking early entry at 14 in the November and as an August birthday in the year before they started GCSE's. Sadly not quite the youngest as there are a couple of child geniuses who took the same exam aged around 8 or 9!

Probably the main thing my classes whine about is going further into things not directly on the syllabus or that won’t be in the exam. If your daughter wants any extra materials on the science side of things I’m happy to give those. I pre-recorded all lessons over both lockdowns with worksheets to go alongside or as homework’s etc.

Thanks BSB, appreciated. I may take you up on that, although I'm probably more likely to work through them than her. It's hard enough getting her to do what she has to these days without additional material. If you have any topics that could go into a Roblox game I think we'd have more joy!

Things seem to point to the fact that as long as we are getting the jabs we'll be fine, did you manage to reason with yourself to get the booster in the end?

Does seem that way.

And no I'm still not keen to be honest, looking at the double Pfizer ability to still stop hospitalisation i think I'm going to stick with just the two.

Also, the general consensus even amongst English medical bodies now is that this is actually milder than delta helps.

This isn't me outright saying no I rule out the booster going forward, I just can't shake the niggling voice in the back of my mind holding me back.

Leaped at the chance for jab 1 and 2

If we know how much more infectious and how much less severe that will help us a lot in deciding what to do next. I saw somewhere mentioning 70 x more infectious (!), which I can’t get my head around if true

Fair enough man, I think it's crazy not to get it though just to put my feelings out there. I got a moderna booster after 2 Pfizer jabs.

The thing kicked my arse for 48 hours actually. Had a proper fever the day after and couldn't sleep.

Hopefully if hospitalisations don't increase then maybe they should start looking to reduce stuff like self isolation. We need to properly learn to live with this thing. Not shut down every Xmas. I guess it is all about the data though and hopefully it continues to be good news.

Only thing I'd say is a friend of my Dad's, asthmatic, early 50s so older than you but... double jabbed at the time, five weeks and counting off work because of Covid. It's not just hospitalisation

Think the issue is that there isn't really much transparency. Whether it's to get clicks, divide people etc.

Would so many have gone for the booster if the general consensus from the start was "Omicron will give you a cold"? Then there is the whole "I hope you are happy, you are going to kill all of your elderly relatives over Christmas" type stuff.

At the other end of the scale there's the injecting the microchip into you and the government can track you type stuff.

In the meantime, who is going to need the Pfizer pill that cures Omicron if everybody realises it's something that for 99% of people a paracetamol and a bit of rest can fix?

I get it, as i say im not fully shutting the door on jab 3 just wonder where the hells does this all end?

Already sticking jab 4 in 12 months into Isreali's.

Know of 3 or 4 people completely unjabbed who shook it off after a day or 2 of lemsip, so hopefully id follow the same path if so

That's a bit of a contradiction.

If somebody doesn't get sick pay for example, why would they risk that over potentially a runny nose?

There's loads of different viewpoints, not all will be "The booster is PoIsOn"

Also, it's the 3rd jab now. If Omicron is very mild and just a cold then what reasoning will there be for the 4th and 5th? There just needs to be some sort of concise thing going forward that actually makes sense.

A lot of the problem comes I think from scientific papers coming out as new data and evidence emerges, then the media picking it up, half not knowing what it really means and half just going with whatever sells the most papers or gets the most clicks. The honest answer is that time is needed to properly collect and verify the data that tells us how transmissible it is and how likely it is to put the average person in hospital. But time isn't what a politician has or what a journalist has either.

Anti viral medication is a whole separate issue. The science side of this is actually very transparent in that if you know where to look papers are coming out all the time to be read by anyone. It's those tasked with making policy decisions, and those reporting on it, who need to look at themselves.

Spent far too long trying to work out what polson was.

You started by saying how you are fine after it, but it kicked your arse for 2 days after having it.

A lot of the reported side effects actually seem worse than getting a dose of Omicron.
Apologies, the first part was a joke. The binary after it was supposed to inform the reader of that. Obviously it wasn't a very good one.

I've removed the joke now.

One day of a fever wasn't pleasant. Although I'll take that for ongoing protection against all forms of Covid-19 and hopefully a bit of normality.

In the mean time I'm not sure it helps that you come on here insinuating that getting the booster can lead to people actually getting omicron. Even if it is just a 'runny nose'.

I don't think he meant that to be fair. Though there is a point to be made that the vaccination centres themselves aren't always as Covid secure as they ideally would be. They're run by volunteers who mostly just ask if you have symptoms but don't ask for anything else-it's less secure than what we'll have to do to get into a football match

Helps what? I literally pointed out examples, one was a member on here who posted on Sunday they just had the booster and then a couple of days later were positive. Is that not allowed to be discussed? What isn't it helping?

It won't be ongoing protection, there will be more jabs needed. (I thought exactly the same after my second)

It doesn't help the people like Baldy and Fatso who are will read it and possibly go and tell their mates (lol) that they read on the Internet that getting the booster can actually increase your chances of getting covid. It's your prerogative though.
No one ever said the jab would last forever. I wouldn't do a victory lap on that one.

I never said it would increase the chances, I was looking at a few people I know (and on here) who have been boosted then tested positive. People like BSB know more of the science.

Exactly, there will be the 4th, 5th and then it will be the 6th to give you total protection. Where does it end?

People can be mental at either end, whether it's the people saying the vaccines are killing people or it's when people are saying you can't get CovID or pass it on if you have a booster.

How dare you BSB !!! I temperature checked, asked recent illness, wiped down chairs (no real use apart from when an old lady had a little accident), ensured that hands were sanitised, distance maintained and mask were worn ! In one entrance, out a different exit. Slick operation !

Take the point though, if omicron is as transmissible as they reckon, a lot of centres are probably decent spreading hubs, especially a few weeks back when they were making people wait 15 mins post Pfizer jab 😬...actually maybe that’s when I caught it again, not from my mate...dirty fuckers !

I'd have my 4th booster now if they let me. Load me up and I'll just use all my annual leave on a January bender with 4 jabs and having recently had it.

Indestructible.

My other half is still negative with both lateral flow and PCR and we've spent pretty much all our time together since Saturday including working from home so it can't be that fucking transmissible.

Chances are she had it first with no symptoms and passed it on to you in first place then! So blame her is what I think I’m saying!!!!

Little sister had +ve LFT and felt like shit after we went out for drinks together so I gave her a lift and we both fit PCR tests. Hers positive mine negative. Done about 3 LFTs since and all negative.

I’m just fucking invincible I reckon

Don't they think that you're at your most infectious pre symptoms, sure I've read that. There is definitely some inherent susceptibility to it.

The difference being the first group of people exist, for instance I've just been for a walk around allesley Park and there are covid is a hoax stickers that have now been peeled off the lamp posts. Also there are people who post on here who fall into that group. The second group of people I don't recall seeing posting on here and I've not seen anything out in the public saying that if you get the booster you can't pass it on.
