I have just phoned the council to complain about our green bin not being collected on Tuesday, they told me that the bins in our area are next Tuesday and then in April if the dispute isn’t resolved.

The unions want to, not necessarily those in it. I don’t think that being paid the same as our Scottish counterparts is an unreasonable request, about a 7% rise. The unions want 16% over 2 years which personally I don’t really agree with although it’s in the context of a 17% real terms cut.

My wages at JLR were behind inflation. It wasn't a problem no. Its reality as oddly companies margins are squeezed as they also pay more on production materials and utilities and fuel

Maybe they were behind inflation as you had access to massively subsidised company car scheme and therefore were not impacted as much by a general all RPI index linked inflation figure impacting others.

I went round the house yesterday to shut the water off just in case we get a very cold snap (it's empty and waiting for completion on a sale).
I was slightly surprised to see the bin on the pavement, and full of rubbish. Some bugger had obviously dragged it out of the garden and filled it
I couldn't care less about that tbh, but when I got inside there was a letter threatening all sorts of shit if I didn't pay the council tax immediately!
I don't live in the city, use absolutely no services, and don't even get a discount (they only discount if it's a single occupier. Empty accrues full payment. That's logical, eh?).

I think there is a 6-month grace period if selling a property and leaving it empty but not 100% sure.

I'm happy with what I get for the job I do and I get rewarded when it's due. It can be annoying when someone new has the red carpet rolled out for them, but when I reflect I'd rather have my security, knowledge base, job satisfaction and respect that has been earned and trusted over a period of longevity.

Meanwhile the snake-oil salespeople that keep on moving on are having a great time spending the money they haven't earned.

Don't get me wrong, I've got a lot of time and admiration for those who work for the love of a job and want to earn what they have. If only more people had that outlook on life.

The thing that is confusing me is that the rest of what you've said seems to be against people like that, and lauding those that are inherently greedy and selfish.

I've no idea what the 'grace' period is, and I have no issues with flushing out those that deliberately leave properties empty.
However, I do have a beef at being charged full price for zero services while I wait for the house to sell.
Before my mum left the house to, necessarily, move near to us and into sheltered accomodation, she paid three quarters what I do, and benefited from all the services one expects.
I now get none! Ah well, hopefully we exchange next month and I can wash my hands of it all

I perhaps should have numbered them or inserted into the quoted text so they made more sense, but they were unrelated points, isolated what you say reads correct. I was responding to a few different issues mentioned on the SB Dreamer post.

My point about others earning loads and doing less, refers to sales guys (often but not always) who arrive new on big salaries promising the world, who then don't live up to expectations or able to deliver what they promised. Those have moved on to other pastures. Conversely I'm still here and whilst I may not earn those megabucks, I'm happy with what I get for the job I do and I get rewarded when it's due. A bit off-topic but I've been paying full water rates for years despite being a single-occupant entitled to a 25% discount. The reason is that for a long time the the bill was in the name of a former occupant (even though I was always the one who paid it) and it took me a very long time and the production of many legal documents to convince Severn-Trent otherwise. Right now I'm in the process of moving house which makes things even more complicated. I wouldn't have had these problems if water was still administered by the local authority as they already have these details on file.

The workers are being recruited to work for Tom White Waste Ltd which is a separate waste company and not part of the current dispute. Tom White waste is entirely owned by Coventry council.

Cov Council have owned Tom White for ages , coventry Council director is also the director of Tom White and Coombe Abbey Hotel .. why hasn't he combined Tom White into cov Council... the answer is simple bonuses
