No it was an event - it was a perfectly legal gathering. The MP as well I like. He did have a similar attitude to the rules

In the height of lockdown 1 I broke said rules pretty much every day

'perfectly legal gathering' now. You really are making sure you're going for the Tory bingo full-house aren't you.

Good job for you the police don't investigate law breaking that happened in the past...

But who is talking about him keep it current

Well that’s also ridiculous as you have to look at context. If it was phrased correctly it’s not really libellous - the only person who stepped over the line was cakey SDP man

What Johnson said didn’t ruin people’s lives and although it was pretty stupid and ridiculous it really impacted no one

Watson’s didn’t either really. And wasn’t known to be untrue at the time.

But if we’re calling equivalence I look forward to Johnson’s apology and subsequent disappearance as an MP.

Well was Sir Keir Starmer head of the CPS when it was decided not to prosecute Saville - yes he was

People defend anything if they back tbe cause. The denials that Corbyn and McDonnell were active supoorters of the Irish Republican Army being a case on point

So finding out the rules that had been put in place, that meant people had to let loved ones live and die alone, never getting the chance to say goodbye or console their families, were being broken on an almost daily basis by the Prime Minister and his cronies just so they could have a drink after work, isn't going to play on their minds for the rest of their lives?

Starmer had nothing to do with the decision. It’s like saying Johnson failed to prosecute Saville. Or you did.

How did he step over the line? He called him a liar. He's been proven to be a liar.

I know he didn’t have anything to do with the decision

So are you suggesting that everyone who has been fined for breaking lockdown rules should be compensated?

You should also try saying that to someone who has loved ones that died during lockdown regardless of what and then obeyed the rules. You’re actually a bit of c**t for even contemplating let alone going through with trivialising this. What an awful excuse you are for a human being.

That’s a breach of parliamentary rules
And do you not think that's a ridiculous state of affairs? That someone in the house can make any suggestion they like about anyone else and that's fine under 'parliamentary privilege', but to call a member of that house a liar isn't fine, even when it has been demonstrably proven many times that's exactly what he is?

How can you hold someone corrupt to account if you can't call them out for it in the very place you need to be able to?

The laws of that house are an ass, based in tradition that has absolutely no place in a functioning democracy. it should be held to the same standards as anywhere outside the chamber.

Got what he wanted, which is everyone saying Starmer and Saville in the same sentence over and over.
There was something to this end on LBC this morning…. The minutiae gets lost in all the noise and they just hear those two words.

Been tuning in and out of LBC all day and the thing I was struck by was the number of callers who consider themselves traditional Tories having voted Tory for decades (some even party members) saying that they’re essentially Tories without a party and most of them also saying that they didn’t vote in the 2019 GE as they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Boris or the party he’s turned the Tories into. Never really thought of that before.

That’s what happens when you move a broad church party off to the fringes.

No different to Republicans put off by Trump, they exist but as a group I imagine Tory voters are generally more loyal to the party or candidate.

yeah, I think being Conservative in both name and nature, holding their nose and ticking the same box as always is more preferable to them than risking an alternative getting in.

Meanwhile the left will argue over the minutiae of what the parties want to do and end up with their worst possible outcome of a Tory government as a result.
