The pitches have always looked amazing at Ryton, wonder why they are shit now? Have groundsmen gone?

I feel like this is something the owners should be financing, and not the playing budget
Absolutely, playing budget should never be effected by upgrading the club infrastructure. It's not like they're building a fucking new stadium is it. Ridiculous

Mad that Richard Overson had to step in the past to help the club upgrade the training ground cos SISU weren't bothered.

Didn't they do pitch renovation at Ryton last summer?

Sounds like he's not just talking about the pitches but Ryton as a whole which isn't a new issue. Keeps having work done and being patched up but as we've discussed before there's limited room to work with and we're really at a point where a new training ground is needed but that will come at a significant cost.

Not sure any of us think our owners are writing a cheque for that so unless we can do some sort of deal with the Uni to share facilities its going to be a case of patching things up and the money from that will come out of the budget one way or another unless we get someone like Overson to pay for it again.

Hopefully this is not the beginning of the end for Robins future with Cov -Frustration seems to be picked up in his wording. He is already reportedly working with one of the smallest and cheapest squads in the division and money seems so tight it seems he is suggesting 'ear-marking a chunk of the funds available to improve the quality of the club’s Ryton training ground pitches' -Worrying comments indeed - Other clubs might show him around there superb training facilities and how much he is given to spend to fulfil his ambitions . We are one of the best if not the best footballing sides in the division- please at least provide him the basics of decent pitches and facilities

I think this is a bit of a strange article and as a Championship club I find it quite embarrassing.

Firstly why's pitch maintenance coming out of the playing budget?

And equally even if that's the case why are the club pushing that out to the press and making it public knowledge knowing full well the reaction it's going to get?

Not really sure what their aim is here. Putting my tin foil hat firmly on it suggests they're either pining for donations or prepping their narrative for when player sales are made in the summer.

Probably need to see the whole press conference to judge. I mean its not like its unknown for the Telegraph to focus on one thing and try and make it sound worse than what was actually said.

Just looking on the clubs twitter feed you can see that there was a fair amount of work done at Ryton in the summer and the groundman who looks after the pitches is apparently award winning.

As for budget where do you think the money is going to come from? Our owners are going to put extra money in because Robins wants new changing rooms at Ryton. There's pot of cash and it can be divided up whatever way Boddy and Robins see fit but if we spend x amount on Ryton that's x amount that won't be available in the player budget.

Or [repping for leaving Ryton before adequate replacement is offered?

On the scrounge from Richard Overson again I guess and player sales. They will go for the hot fit for purpose angle to try to develop it for housing and get somewhere else.

I'm well aware of the process CD. However, I just find the wording very strange. Obviously less overall money means less money available for MR. But why push it out to the press?

It just sounds desperate. Even if that's the reality of the situation I don't understand why they've vocalised it.

Perhaps it's the CT twisting things, they certainly have a history, but even some of the words used by Robins are quite odd and without fabricating what he said, not totally sure how they could have been twisted.

That being said I don't want to speculate more than I already have as it usually ends in tears on here, however I just think it's a bizarre article.

I thought the training ground was being sold off . Has that changed ?

Why would Sisu invest in Ryton When the bulldozers are moving in, apparently.

That's why we need to see the full press conference. For all we know a question was asked about pitch quality and Robins spoke about the CBS before moving on to this.

If you take the the 'just awful' headline it comes off a bit differently to some of the quotes later in the artice which makes it sound more like the everyday business of running a football club.
And this isn’t by any stretch of the imagination a criticism. It’s the circumstance and the reality.

As Dave Boddy said recently, we are not playing Championship Manager. It is real and your tangible assets are your players and we have to have an environment where we can develop them to the full.

And while we move forward in a lot of areas, that’s an area that needs development. That may have to happen at a later time but it’s something we are all mindful of and working towards.
Ryton needing improvement and a long term plan to move aren't exactly breaking news, its something that's been talked about for years and someone most would say its unlikely to significantly change under current ownership.

Fair enough CD you're probably right. Perhaps upon first reading it triggered me slightly and I jumped the gun too soon.

I still find it a bit odd but that's probably just me.

Their just getting us ready for summer sales to “help with budget” season ticket sales pitch won’t be too far away

All part of the growth of the club off the field which needs to start lining up with a fairly successful Championship club, rather than clinging onto League 2 behind the scenes. Which is what it appears is happening.

I imagine it's a work in progress though, another season in Championship with 20k attendances each week will start paying dividends, you'd assume...

To SISU investors, probably.

Maybe part of it is try and push the narrative for selling the training ground to move to a new one. It wasn't too long ago that the pitches at Ryton were purportedly in great nick.

Tbf, I don't think the club 'scrounge' of Richard Overson. I think it's more of a case of of him offering to pay for things if required.

Yeah, but I'm sure they drop hints about stuff they want and hope he offers. If he does i bet they say 'yes' very quickly.

I thought that, kind of softening the blow to move to Warwick Uni on good pitches. Especially just after the statement from Warwick Uni about the legal stuff.

Could be 2+2=5 though but seems a bit strange.

It sounds to me like MR might have just dropped his guard and voiced one of his frustrations.
As for Ryton, it's future is identified for development but only once a suitable alternative has been sourced. There was rumours of the new training ground being sited out near Southam, close to the polo ground and HS2.
Clearly, the current training ground is not comparable with a number of other Championship clubs.

Son has reffed there numerous time. Fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities. Even sprinklers set into junior grass pitches. Whatever pitches not being used ground staff working on them at all times. Very impressive
