the issue is though he did admit if Russia cannot access the capital then they will probably blast the place to dust and had no real solution to prevent it other than “it would be really outrageous”

You could imagine that there is a real issue with lower level military (maybe even higher level) not being back to push back on orders and saying ‘no, that’s no possible’…for fear of imprisonment or possibly death !
That culture of fear works in some situations but I’d imagine it’s having a real negative impact here, especially relating to logistics/strategy

The people of Russia were told there would only be a war if they were attacked. No wonder they disbelieve(d) people phoning from Ukraine. Mother Russia wouldn’t do such a thing.

They've got another issue coming up with logistics.
As the ground thaws going to severely limit movement and Ukraine doesn't have an extensive (or well-maintained) road network. In a normal year we couldn't get on the ground to drill until mid-April because it was just too wet. So even tanks will have to stay next to the roads just to be refuelled.
We used to move combines and tractors all round the place rather than straight from A to B because bridges couldn't take heavy loads, not a lot of side roads where you can easily take shortcuts. Also a lot of the side roads etc are still gravel rather than tarmac.
So convoys etc going to be concentrated in small spaces but I suppose that will apply to Ukrainian forces trying to attack these convoys as well.
Plus looking at that twitter video of the lorries etc on a train I recognise several of those types and they are literally out of the Ark. Only reason a few of them are still around in private ownership in Hungary is that they are easily maintained because they are so basic. But got no speed, fuel efficiency or load capacity

That convoy is going very far any time soon, which I think explains why Ukraine haven't bombed it - they've got more pressing issues for their air force to deal with

I guess, given the size of the Russian empire and he definitely sees himself in Czarist terms, but I think his playbook is more Stalinist. So it's a sort of hybrid of the two.

I hope your right but given their track record I fear weeks or months down the line we'll hear different.
Already this morning I've seen reports of a women who has spent 4 days with her young daughter getting to Calais only to be refused entry to the UK and a charity reporting that the government won't remove the red tape and costs we've incurred post-Brexit so they have to raise an additional £6K to cover fees to enable them to get aid to Ukraine.
