shall k change my name to lord grey and you can then laugh and point score with your twitter mates - except most of you will be dead

Get your head out your arse

You still can't answer.

I'm specifically asking why it's OK to send anti tank and anti aircraft weapons, but sending a plane is a breach of regulations.

Please provide a link or quote of this regulation.

China didn't escalate matters when they had skirmishes on their own border with India. I don't think they'll get involved in this conflict militarily.

But will they supply arms and “encouragement”

And let’s be honest a war that threatens the take over of Russia by the west is a road to a nuclear holocaust

which is what we're doing with Ukraine. If that's as far as it goes we might just be OK. It's a perilous situation.

Putin wants to restore Ukraine back into Russia for czarist reasons he has zero ambition whatsoever to conquer Europe you stupid clown.

Ukraine is the Cold War equivalent of world peace. It’s not worth one ounce of British blood. I agree with humanitarian support and sanctions against Russia will not create a global conflict but it’s Nonsense like this that creates war
People kept on saying Hitler wouldn't go further but he did. And if he'd conquered Britain and Russia he'd have kept going, confident that he'd managed to defet these two foes. Once they start winning and feeling invincible their ambitions get bigger and bigger. No-one at all in his circle will disagree with him or he'll get rid of them if they do. It will have started out as a Czarist thing to regain all the old land of the Russian Empire (some of which is already in NATO) but if he succeeded he'd be "well, why shouldn't others be under our control rather than these stupid Western ideals of democracy and liberalism that they cling to?" They seeing it as freeing them, just as Putin has said about Ukraine and 'de-Nazifying' it.

Like someone who wants to be a millionnaire. Once they get to be a millionnaire they want to be a billionnaire. Then that's not enough. Once they get the taste it cannot be sated and they will just keep going for more and more.

Good to have someone sensible even if politically bereft in the discussion

So there is no regulation.

Thought so.

I'm sure Putin is absolutely fine with nations sending thousands of anti tank weapons which have destroyed thousands of his vehicles.

You do realise I agree with you about NATO/the UK not getting involved? I am absolutely against NATO troops being involved in the conflict and don't want anyone starting a war with Russia. I have been very clear on this throughout.

I certainly don't expect them to get involved in this. It would have to escalate to such an extent that chances are it would be pretty much nuclear war before they even considered it.

I meant more about advancing their own immediate interests and how they can gain more power and essentially make the world 'subservient' to their ideals in the way it was to the U.S. post WWII.

War is already there. Estonia isn't worth a nuclear holocaust in my view but seemingly people are fine with us having signed the piece of paper that says if Putin invades this tiny Baltic state then it's on.

Americans said the same thing about Britain-it's not our war, not our fight and we don't want our soldiers going to die in a distant land. Soon the choice was taken out of their hands. History will look back on our inaction and condemn it

There's obviously no specific rule about sending planes. In fact I'm not aware of any treaty whatsoever regarding what we can and can't send to Ukraine, and even if there was I don't think any agreement survives Russia's invasion.

Obviously Putin won't be happy, but I think we're a bit beyond worrying about his feelings.

I did wonder if it would make sense to provide drones too. Ukraine could really use some destructive air power to start striking at Russian artillery, it looks like their plan now is to shell the cities into submission, regardless of civilian casualties. Literally a war crime, I believe.

Not an answer is it. It's a fact that war is already there, it's also clear that if we honoured NATO to the letter we'd end the world to defend Estonia.

Not me who needs to grow up casually dismissing the right of a country to exist

Estonia hasn’t been invaded

what aren’t you getting about this? We are allied to nato. Ukraine is no more a cause than Sierra Leone. We shouldn’t have meddled in Iraq and we shouldn’t even with nato approval attacked Libya

Ukraine is no more our problem than these countries

BSB laughs at this wow

But if it were would you think it acceptable for British blood to be spilled to defend it? Due to a bit of paper we signed?

It's smaller and less significant to us. We've got a larger Ukrainian population over here. So why should we help defend them and not Ukraine?

Or do you think we should just not get involved there either, NATO disintegrates and Putin can start invading wherever he likes as NATO is now no longer an obstacle to his plans?

Grendel

If it is then do you expect NATO to commit to war over it? Or just let Putin take it-I assume that as a vast country of 40 million is insignificant so is most of the continent

If Estonia is invaded we’d go to war. Not a conversation and it won’t happen

Yes-so we'd go to war over a country of a million but not do anything for a much much larger country of 40 million.

I strongly doubt we'd do anything if he went into the Baltic states threatening nuclear war if NATO did anything. He's set a precedent for how to invade with impunity

Are you drunk? It’s in NATO - therefore he won’t invade - also oddly it’s an alliance Ukraine are not in it thank god

So if China invaded Taiwan would we go to war? Clueless

also this hypothesis is dull

Taiwan is basically indefensible if China decided to go for it. The Russian invasion here could be crushed

Dull doesn't mean implausible.

I don’t thing Russia will bridge nato and if Ukraine is the consequence that’s that
