I’d have a bet that Tavares would have had better likelihood to score.

I do hope that Goal diff doesn’t come into it at end of season and I’d wager that there is a difference in appearance fees and number of games played bonus between the Waghorn and Tavares.

That said, I would no way disagree with 6’8” Dennis Lawrence. Ever.
It’s clear that the management don’t hold him in the same regard as the fans, hence why Waghorn has been the preferred sub. Good point about DL haha.

How many dummies did he do to put Vik through? At least 3. He won countless flicked on headers to put vik clear too. Hes far from a passenger even when he’s not scoring.
Yes, he helped to get Vik isolated against a single centre back with his running. I think Godden is quite limited in what he can do with the ball outside the box but his movement is nevertheless very good.

Missed the first half, but 2nd half all 9 or 10s. Coh, gyok and maatsen all top class.

Could easily been 7 or 8. BBC reckons we had 27 shots....14 on target.

I wonder if DL’s approach was different to MR’s and he’s said go out and enjoy yourselves cos it was almost like the fetters were off, a bit like the last ten games last year and the year before.
Maybe it’s all planned to go wild for the last 10 games every season?

This approach would be a very efficient way to get fired from your job. I think Lawrence said himself that the game plan was entirely Robins, as you would expect.

I genuinely have no idea how much regard they have for Tavares but alternatively they could be limiting his minutes as he is raw and inexperienced and they want to introduce him slowly so as not to ruin his confidence. Only time will tell.

Just watched the replay on iFollow. Thought COH, Györkeres, Maatsen, JCS and Hamer were all excellent. Don’t get people asking why Rose put the ball out before their goal, if he hadn’t their striker would’ve got to it, it wasn’t definitely heading out. Thought Rose had a good game as did Dabo.

Waghorn needs minutes and confidence, it was clearly the right call to bring him on during a 4-1 laugher. Also he nearly scored, so why stress about it.
You could argue the same of Tavares. We keep on saying that we never have games where we can bring young players on when the game is won or there's nothing to play for. Here was a perfect opportunity to give a youngster time against a defence his attributes should have been perfect to exploit. Instead we bring on a 30+ ageing striker to give him minutes and confidence.

If he needs minutes and confidence for goals give him a few U23 games, with the added bonus of letting other youngsters learn from him. If he sulks it'll tell you everything you need to know about his attitude. As you point out he nearly scored. Didn't actually score though.

I don't think Waghorn has done that badly the last couple of games (though he was awful for many before that) but if we're not going to use opportunities like that to give younger players some experience then we never will and we may as well sack off the younger teams and use the funds from all their wages/coaches etc to pay a first team player or two.

Not forgetting SBT's strange dislike for Tavares.

I don’t dislike the guy, I just think it’s very odd that after we win 4-1 and our first choice strikers play very well, people still want to moan about why Tavares didn’t play. Sounds like he’s the main attraction for some people now!

No, it was just an ideal pressure free opportunity for him to have a run at some tired Championship defenders who had been terrorised by Gyo all game.

Even Allen was outpacing their defenders just think what a rapid hungry young striker would have done to them

No one has really said they dislike him have they? IMO I just think we've been at this juncture before with regards to overhyping U23 players.

I think if anything what's probably more strange is the sheer obsession with Tavares / the constant second guessing of Robins for not giving him 5 minutes or so at the back end of games.

The fact the management team aren't giving him regular game time week in week out probably suggests they don't think he's good enough yet. Not sure why fans think otherwise when they're not the ones watching him day in day out in training.

One wonder goal shouldn't really force the management team's hand or change their opinion.

Guess it depends what you want from games.

Jordan Shipley to come on to defend a 0-0 or Tavares to try and get you the win.

I'd obviously want to bring on the players that would give us the best chance of winning.

But if the management team decide that's Waghorn over Tavares for instance how can we actually question that when the latter hasn't even played the equivalent of a full half yet?
