You know the worst thing for me.

Standing at the door of the church at my mum's funeral, turning people away, because we had already met the 30 number limit.

I was running, well I wasn’t actually running because you remember when you told me never to run in the house, so it looked like I was running but I wasn’t actually running.

Yeah, Im a bit soft so kind of with you on this. From what I’ve read this (probably initial !) fine for him and Sunak related to the surprise birthday cake/party from Carrie. This was 2-3 months after Johnsons nearly died from Covid, some may or may not cut some slack because of this. I’m sympathetic to it

I personally think this alone wouldn't be a resignation matter for either of them. You could even argue if it really was a surprise, then even retrospective fines might feel a bit harsh for them….hard to say without knowing the full details of the ‘party’.

For at least Johnson though, I doubt very much this is the end of it. Id be shocked if there aren’t others and the fact his natural reaction was to lie about the parties is what’s caused the main issue for him. Basically if there’s more fines to come it will surely make his position untenable, especially because of the subsequent lying to Parliament.

I also do believe underlying all this Johnson didn’t think he needed to follow the rules he was setting and probably didn’t truly believe in many of the rules themselves.

We know he's broken the law, we know he's set those laws, we know his word is not to be trusted so we must assume the worst. That's all there is to it.

Removing him from office will be another sideshow whilst we go through rounds of votes and jostling for position, reshuffling the ministers and generally wasting time when there are more important things going on in the world. Removing him from office sadly won't bring back yours or anyone else's loved ones.
