Vaccine procurement
and before anyone says anyway (Tony behave !) no we couldn’t have just cracked on and done our own thing…legally yes but no member did their own thing until after the procurement fuck up.In response to the other comments removal of 5% VAT on energy would’ve been less than the rebate through the councils tax for a majority of the country. I personally would’ve knocked the VAT off and claimed ‘Brexit win’ and I’ve said before, almost fair play that they didn’t…even if their choice is more convoluted and delayed ! I also don’t think it’s enough though and would be shocked if more help isn’t on its way…especially after the fines !!!
Inflation is a global problem caused almost totally by global issues. Bank of England probably should’ve stopped printing money and started raising rates a bit sooner but inflation would still be high because everyone else has been merrily printing money and there was also massive post Covid pent up demand. Add to that the war and it’s a perfect inflationary shitstorm.

I’ve said, we were ‘allowed to’, but we couldn’t have done what we did if we were still in the EU. I think Germany, Italy and France were told not to go it alone and walked away from an agreed contract as the EU wanted EU wide procurement. Understandably in a way because you can’t have one member steaming ahead and vaccinating large numbers and others struggling. There would’ve been massive political pressure not to

Gordon Brown did a great job during the financial crisis. It’s been said before though it was the lack of build up in reserves in decent growth times which was peoples issue. I’ve said before they would’ve only helped a bit anyway due to the size of the financial crisis.

For me capitalism is great for innovation and choice through competition. The only thing utility companies can differentiate on is customer service and frankly they’re all shit and it’s such a secondary concern anyway.
Rail is a little more complex but generally same deal I want to get from a to b at the time I want, how plush the seats are or what food is offered on board is very much a nice to have but not a decision maker.

Nah it was people buying a cheap hit job. Brown did very well and we had more surpluses than most governments under his chancellorship. The only mistake I’ll lay at his door for the GFC was deregulating banks too much, but everyone was at it and the opposition would have gone further so even that is a hard stick to wield.

That’s a contradiction in terms.
The UK MHRA who approved the vaccines also confirmed that leaving the EU changed nothing, in fact the regulation that they used is known as regulation 174 which has been around since 2012, a whole 4 years before we even had a referendum. It’s complete bollocks to suggest that brexit miraculously moved the goalposts. We’re in brexit unicorn with rainbows flying out of its arse territory.

Like VAT etc. we could still have done it, it's just whether we'd have broken ranks to do so.
Not being able to doing something and not choosing to do something are not the same argument. Using peer pressure as a reason is a poor excuse for kids, let alone a government.
I’ve explained this before. We could do what we wanted in terms of vaccines under the rules but ‘politically’ we couldn’t have, the EU would never have allowed it. Hence the example of Germany, France and Italy (might be Holland rather than one of those actually)

The regulation was already in place, I’ve quoted you the regulation, it pre dates brexit and the referendum, the EU couldn’t have stopped us doing jack. Politically we couldn’t/wouldn’t of. I don’t know why people are struggling to understand. Other countries were stopped (‘persuaded’) from signing their own contracts. That’s a fact. I don’t know what political pressures were applied but it happened. There is no way we would’ve been able to deliver the same vaccine procurement/programme if we were still in the EU.

There is literally nothing, nothing that the EU could have done to stop us approving the vaccine ahead of the EMA. Nothing. It’s complete bollocks. The Nadine Dorries reference is valid because even after I’ve quoted you chapter and verse you’ve continued with the fantasy, fully in the style of Nadine Dorries. Best thing you can do is read up on who the MHRA are and their role in the vaccine program, read up on regulation 174, there’s even a video of the head of the MHRA at a commons select committee explaining why Matt Hancock was talking bollocks when he first made the claim. Your first clue is that it was Matt Hancock who initially made the claim.No need for that.
