Well, we'll have to wait and see but the main point in that is LOCAL. They don't actually mean very much in terms of changing policy. Each council are hamstrung by decisions taken at a national level and many councils going Labour would just lead to a Tory govt slashing council funding and heaping more costs onto them. Meanwhile the Tories will continue to have control over all the decisions that actually matter and that could make a difference, but instead will choose to enrich their mates.
It will not be a win.

Clearly the Rwanda plan is morally disgraceful, but IMHO it will never actually be implemented anyway....its just a crude (and nationally embarrassing) attempt to disrupt the current MO of the trafficking system where currently any asylum seeker/refugee/economic migrant just gets on dinghy, get a few hundreds meters off shore and then sets off the distress flare for prompt rescue and taxi to Kent.
All would be easily resolved with a processing centre in calais....but macron and Johnson will never agree with such a common sense plan

Not sure Macron would have any say in it. Britain has a consulate in Calais. Set up an asylum centre in there and it’s essentially on British sovereign territory.

This government would never do anything meaningful to try and fix the root of the problem (a clear and accessible asylum process and shutting down the criminal gangs) as they would be forced to turn their attention to the other multitude of problems they have created with their policies.
Much easier to wheel out a preposterous policy like this every so often to get the flag-shaggers excited and give you a great set of paper headlines every time you need to deflect from a shitshow.

The later you delay things, the less point there is in being accountable for past actions...
Not sure she can release report until they’ve finished police investigation/dishing out fines though.

Basically keep on saying it's too early to talk about until all the evidence is in. Gray report published/criminal report published, then when once that's done they say why do people keep bringing all this stuff up from so long ago and no-one cares anyomore so we should just move on.

It’s how you want to present the stats though PVA. I look at the cumulative of the ‘Covid years’ together with projections as countries had waves at different times and therefore recoveries will happen at different times. For example Spain was still -5.7% after 2020 and 2021 so I would expect them to grow faster this year and next compared to us (-1.9%) and France (-1%).
I take the point that Johnson should be careful with his boasts (there’s no need !) but think he was basing on actual rather than forecasts… although was maybe being a little loose with the full picture truth…standard !
I can understand lower growth if it’s due to us being consumer driven economy in a high inflation period. What doesn’t quite make sense is why inflation wouldn’t remain higher and have a greater impact here than, in say Germany*, if they truly are weening themselves off Russian oil and gas ?! As they’re a high manufacturing intensive economy, in what is a high energy cost period, I’d be surprised if they’re not hit harder than forecast but a lot depends on Russian/Ukraine I guess
Edit - just heard guy from IMF saying Germany already revised down 1.7% since Jan so maybe already taken into consideration
