Thanks PVA. Great thread. Hope he’s right about the Russians struggling. I’ve read some concerning articles recently about Russian publics attitude to the war and the fact they’re not turning against Putin, so it’s good to see some positive stuff

"But it may not turn out how the Russians think. The momentum is with the Ukrainians. I think they’ll kick the Russians out. But they’ll lose 100k civilians doing it."
Hope he's wrong on this - civilian deaths somewhere between 1600 (UN figures) and 7500 (ukrainian govt figures).
There's got to be some truly horrendous escalations in levels of brutality to reach his 100k figure.

Very informative. For some reason, I thought of Rourke's Drift.. Not a lot of people know that The Royal Warwickshire Regiment was a big player in that battle.

The second observation was that the twitter feeds further down are promoting clothing, footwear, and fashion accessories to dress like Zelensky.

Putins blinder continues. Considering he was apparently concerned about nato/west edging east, not sure invading Ukraine has had the desired effect…..

‘Finland will decide whether to apply for Nato membership “within weeks, not months”, its prime minister said today, with Sweden expected to follow suit in short order.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has forced the two Nordic states to reconsider their traditions of neutrality, as public opinion in both countries has swung in favour of joining the alliance over the past few months.

In the latest poll, released on Monday, Finnish voters backed Nato membership by a margin of six to one. A separate survey published last week found that just over half of Swedes wanted to enter the defensive alliance.’

As Finland for deffo don't have any plans to join NATO we are at the "spout any nonsense and the western media will post it as a new serious issue" stage of the news cycle

Oops

again case proved - internet point scoring and if people die as a consequence who cares it’s too trump games

I would imagine you aren’t happy at the Ukraine leader preventing men from leaving Ukraine as they’d at least come here live in rather horrific conditions — but as you said they don’t have to and if they do they can wash your car

Russia have admitted it haven't they? So not sure on any need for caution. Certainly admitted it is severely damaged

Breaking news everyone. Completely contrary to what we've all known for a few weeks.

Putin has no respect for the communist regime as it allowed all SSRs to be able to secede from Russia, the comparisons with him are incorrect
It's not the communist part behind the renaissance.
It was the authoritarian leadership and the fact the Russia was "respected and feared" under Stalin according to Putin and like-minded Russians.
One of Putin's recurring themes is that Russia has to be respected and not demonized by the liberal democracies.this respect is due because of Russia's strength and countries should pay due deference to this strength.

The Times are reporting serving SAS personnel are training Ukranians on how to use our weapons within Ukraine. I cant imagine that will go down well with Putin.

That will have been going on for ages. They would have been ‘observing’ the Russian build up and their ‘war games’ on the border.
One of The reasons the Ukrainians were so successful with the anti tank weapons was partly due to the training and advice on where and when to deploy them by the ‘special forces’ soldiers that were sent over beforehand.

Happens all the time from many countries in many conflicts under the guise of military advisers.
Russians recently were heavily involved in Syria and now in Mali.
Lot of "adviser" involvement from various countries in the respective "wars on drugs and terror".
Find a conflict and some country will have military advisers there.

It’s a rehash of an old story. British soldiers have been training Ukrainian soldiers on weapons for years now. It hasn’t suddenly started since Russia further invaded Ukraine. It may have stepped up and become more focused on specific weapons for the type of warfare they’re facing but it’s not a new story.

Johnson banned from entering Russia, unless Russia was the name of a local call girl I can’t imagine he is all that bothered.

Looks like Russia might start struggling in the East soon too.

Same old story - overstretched supply lines that they can't defend. Its amazing how badly they've bungled this invasion.
