Can you imagine a situation where women are dying having back street abortions in the leading democracy in the world? Oh my. Don’t get me wrong there are far too many abortions but safe access is really a bottom line and as for anyone other than the mum having an opinion on what she does with her body well bugger me

Does that also not already apply to those in Northern Ireland?

In theory at least, not any more. Despite the best efforts of the DUP.

Always worth remembering that the DUP can have an unhealthy hold on the Tory party, especially when the numbers in parliament are against them.

At least it’s changed now then. What’s happening in the US is sad but a consequence of the Democrats being too feeble in delaying the Trump appointments.

How can one of the checks and balances (the judiciary) be chosen by another (the executive)? It makes an absolute mockery of independent judiciary. It should be decided by a poll of the judges and have nothing to do with the President.

The whole thing is the brainchild of the human tortoise that is Mitch McConnell. Should have been sent to prison for obstructing Obama's choice. Anti-democracy at it's worst.

Every life is sacred, (say people who demand rhe right to be armed to the teeth and to go around shooting folk).
And for the death penalty. Basically a lot of them seem to feel an unborn foetus has more rights that an actual child.

What annoys me most about the US anti-abortionists is that they hound people who want an abortion because they can't afford a child, then if they keep it as soon as the child is born call that same mother a scrounger for having a kid they can't afford and want welfare to help. Utter backwards c*nts the lot of them.

The Democrats did have that option with the last Trump appointments but decided not to resist. They have also tended to appoint older justices who have then died during a Republican term.

The result being now that despite virtually always losing the popular vote the American right has a stranglehold on the legislature

A bit heavy for a sports forum, but here's the moral philosophy paper.

And wiki notes.

I don't know what sort of argument is being made, but it sounds like to me that they're laying the groundwork for other people to act like complete assholes.

Problems with a politically aligned judiciary. America is not the only country that has this problem, but it is a lot more noticeable there than other places.

The types who say they can’t possibly afford to give people healthcare but absolutely must hand out huge tax giveaways to their mates and enormous contracts to the military industrial complex.

And if you disagree you’re a commie

Amazing isn't it. Not long ago Johnson was king and was key to Tory success. Now they're desperate to distance themselves from him.

It's crazy how badly he's fucked it up. But very funny.

Inevitable though. People forgetting that Boris Johnson is Boris Johnson only ever had a honeymoon period from the outset.

George Eustice, privately educated ex-UKIP nutter (redundancy alert), only in the cabinet because Boris prefers unthinking loyalty to actual intelligence.

'Let them eat (own brand) cake!'

Also, like most in the party of law and order, a bit bent...

I'm not sure why you're so amazed, the Tories have great form for disposing of leaders once the public mood starts to turn. Look at what they did to Thatcher.

I've said for a long while that Labour painting everything on Johnson is a going up a dead end (just like partygate) but here we are.

Agree entirely. They need to pin it on the CONSERVATIVE PARTY not an individual so it sticks to the whole festering organisation.

I was referring to Johnson himself. At how quickly he's fucked it for himself, not at how quickly the Tories are ditching him.

Not so long ago he was Teflon, now he's a total laughing stock. And it's all his fault. Glorious.

They call themselves 'pro-life' when they're actually 'pro-birth'. Once you're born they don't give a sh!t about you.
Some Conservative voices here (eg. Tims Montgomerie and Stanley) are expressing the view that we, in UK, should be having a debate about abortion.
This is where the dark money funded 'Christian nationalists' want to take us.
They can all go to hell.

Perhaps these people should read their desert book more closely for the passages where abortion is referenced as giving ‘bitter water’ to a woman whose child is by another man.

Or perhaps we shouldn’t still allow laws to be guided by books written thousands of years ago by heterosexual men who lived in a very different time.

They are entitled to their beliefs but they should use rational, secular arguments that everyone can respect.
They are not entitled to expect other people to live by their specific faith based morals.
The way these people turn a blind eye to the morals of folks on their side (Eg. Trump) tells you they are not sincere.
They worship nation, patriarchy and mammon. 'God' is whatever suits this agenda.

Let’s be real for a minute. They aren’t pro life at all. The rich will still find ways to get abortions as they have the money, contacts and means to travel to those states where it’s legal and get it sorted.

Those who will be forced into parenthood that they likely can’t afford and or don’t want are the poor people.

This isn’t about abortions or pro life it’s about keeping poor people poor and ensuring generational poverty.

It’s an absolute disgrace in 2022 that the US is turning into the Handmaids tail.

Good grief

Great timing to drop a line like that, the day before local elections. What a fucking useless tosser he is 😂

He's not really done much different from how he's always behaved, it's just the protective barriers they usually put up around him (including the friendly media) have been removed.
