The same police force who did everything it could to not investigate Johnson and the Tories? The same force who wouldn't release details of who'd been fined in case it 'influenced voters'? That's exactly the point - voters should have the information to make an informed decision about who they're voting for. Anf the same force who are now looking into Starmer with seemingly much less to go on than when they steadfastly refused to investigate Johnson? And your worry is that they're Labour!

In fairness part of this comes down to them asking Rees-Mogg for the recommended fine. £50 in his time is a hefty sum.

For the general election, the sitting MP ignores his constituents. His party leader enjoys sneering and general smarminess.

Perhaps it isn’t always about demanding perfection from the party, just for the candidates and figureheads to not be pricks.

Labour has done well but more to do and the Starmer police investigation has now muddied waters a bit with regard to partygate. Pretty much the same as the rough consensus on here

Of course it’s a ‘gotcha’ scenario but think of it as a platform that could actually elevate your stance and profile. Far too many Labour councillors that I’ve encountered lack the necessary people skills for the job.

Yes Boris did break the law several times when we were restricted to our homes. Genuinely don't know facts about Starmer, but as you know country was starting to get back to normal at that time so a million times less serious if he broke a rule/guidance.

I wasn’t saying the Starmer thing is misinfo, obviously if he gets an FPN he needs to resign based purely on his own stance so far. From what I’ve seen I doubt he will get fined, so he should say now he would resign as a show of standards.

While your grievances are well worth noting, I would say that the final sentence applies just as much to Tories. So why are they not held to the same standards?

It's like people expect Tories to be bastards so more readily excuse them for shitty and condescending behaviour. Blue rosette and posh accent gets far more leeway.

But if he didn't stand down you know he and the party would face much heavier criticism than Johnson, even though he's PM and his offences were worse and more numerous.

He would have to set a precedent for showing up Johnson and therefore would have to fall on his sword to prevent the party being dragged down and show Johnson up. Though it'd probably be spun as being a weak leader. Damned if he does...

Crazy times. I still have faith (blind ) in the long term but both sides, left and right, have almost encouraged this by focusing more on populist issues/arguments in recent times rather than just getting on and doing a good job for the country, whether that’s in office or in opposition

I’m a simple man and just want good, credible policies and decent quality MPs to deliver them…surely that’s not too much to ask ?!

I haven’t seen much from either in recent years….bit depressing really…but times change so hopefully things will get better
