The population of the Burnley area is larger id guess Burnley is about the size of Nuneaton but there are a number for towns Foulridge, Barrowford, Padiham, Brierfeld, Nelson, Colne and Burnley all more or less roll into each other bet the total population would be wel over 200k and then there are nearby towns like Earby & Barnoldswick where my dad large loyal Burnley support there.

We have one of the largest potential support bases that there is. Biggest city (aside from Leeds I think but they merge into Bradford) with only one club (I think) plus Nuneaton, Leam, Warwick, Bedduth, Treacletown, Rugby etc.

Burnley haven’t got our potential.

We’ve taken 40k plus to Wembley on more than one occasion recently, it’s time we stopped putting ourselves down and pointed these things out to potential signings / sponsors / investors.

6000 sell out or whatever in that ground plus cementing the support of the local kids for a lifetime would have been far better.

I think at the time for L1 it wasn’t far off. Different requirements for different levels so that the Barrow’s and Sutton’s of this world can progress. I’m think there was a dispensation for time to sort. If not Rugby then Nene Park was a better option. They’d just lost their club and 3000 people had no footy to go to - whatever - better than Northampton - duck egg move.

It was a suggestion and I’ll stick by it. I personally hope he does well - the lad stuck at going to Uni despite easier options and for that he gains my respect. Huddersfield have taken a punt and are now getting some of his massive 50k plus per year back from Wimbledon.

No obsession just the mere fact that we don’t have any. You pick your team to play your opponents and if you have great crossers of the ball you want the option of someone getting in the end of it. It’s not just tall, it’s having the option off the bench of a physical striker AS WELL AS a fast striker or whatever. Last summer, Baka, Biamou etc left (they weren’t good enough) and we got Waghorn who isn’t tall. Done to death now. When in the 80th minute I see a ball crossed and whistling over our strikers heads because Vik ain’t there (subbed or ran into the ground or whatever) then I’ll say “That’s ok, PROCDOC said I’m wrong for even suggesting a taller striker in reserves”.

Similarly, would you stack your centre back options full of 5 foot 8 players. No. Peake wasn’t big nor was Shaw but they had Killer / Konjic to cover the air.

We need a big striker to cover Vik.

Your footballing ideology seems to be about 15 years out of date...

Withstanding that, striker is probably the last position to strengthen as it stands given our budget constraints.

Are you dave Bassett? Tall strikers are only useful if they have other attributes. Hudlin is like bambi on stilts

Jimmy Greaves was about 5 foot 8 and if he scored less than 35 goals a season there was an inquiry

I don’t know about others but personally I feel we’ve improved the quality of players in comparison to who we’ve got rid of ‘so far’ which obviously doesn’t take into account if we lose any of the big three.

Palmer has come in for Shipley/Jones who was once was highly regarded but has lost his way a little. Shipley & Jones need to go back to playing and enjoying their football.

Doyle & Panzo have come in for JCS, Pask & Drysdale which overall I feel gives us better depth.

Hopefully we get a wing back in to replace DaCosta, Maatsen & potentially Kane. I’d love to say we could try and get Cyrus Christie who is still available for RWB and McCallum for LWB and our defensive options would be looking tasty.

If you compare it like that, it’s an improvement. As to whether that is an improvement in comparison to the signings our competition have made I guess we won’t know until the season starts.

The likes of Preston, Hull, WBA, QPR, Burnley have all made good signings. Cardiff have made a lot of signings but unsure if I’d deem them good or not lol.

While I’m worried if we lose one of the big three, I trust Robins & Viviesh can get the best out of players who haven’t had the easiest ride in recent years. Panzo & Palmer are definitely in that category but JCS and Sheaf both had mixed loans spells previously and won the hearts of you all… I’d be happy this season if we could aim to stay around that 8th-12th place and from looking at contract expiring dates we can have a bloody good clear out & rebuild next summer.

While Derby got relegated, they gave it a bloody good crack and were so close despite being -21 points at the start of the season. Max Bird & Louis Sibley seem good options to come in if we lose Hamer or O’Hare, their LWB who we missed out on Lee Buchanan also seemed a good option, it appears Werder Bremen are also after Jason Knight, I’m not opposed to signing their players.
Plange I’m not 100% sold on but to be honest I don’t know much about him but he must be alright if Crystal Palace went and capitalised on grabbing him when Derby were in turmoil. If we can get rid of one of Walker or Waghorn then yeah wouldn’t be a bad option but he wouldn’t be a replacement for Gyokeres.

The only one thing that could really rock us is losing one of the big three so close to the season starting, I’d have much rather done it earlier so we wouldn’t have missed out on people we may have had our eyes on such as Rudoni for example who only went for £800k. Let’s say we pick up another £1m but miss out on picking up the right replacement at the right price have we really gained anything? I know it’s been mentioned we are going to likely lose one but it’s going to hurt no matter which one it is so close to the season starting

The obsession with size in our game is beyond strange to me. I cant coach size, but i can coach him to kick a ball is said at every academy on a daily basis i would bet. Its mental, the 5 best players i have ever see play with my own eyes were not over 6 ft. On TV the 5 best players i seen were not over 6 ft.

What they had was ability to see, feel and know where space was and was going to be quicker than anyone else. They could all move fast with the ball and always put the ball from 1st touch where they wanted it and where they positioned the body to create a barrier. No doubt they were athletic but all were natural, the only two exceptions to this that are not on my list are Ronaldo Portugal, and Zidane who i think are over 6ft. Size helps but is not the most important asset for me in any out field position.

The other thing that could make a difference this year is injuries, or possibly / hopefully lack of.
Last season we were without Godden, Dabo, McFadz, Kelly, Eccles, Waghorn for significant parts of the season, and Gyo played a number of games with an injury, add to that the amount of games missed through suspension.
We are always going to get injuries and suspensions but an improvement on last season could make a big difference.

Agree with your overall point, the potential is massive and had we not suffered decades in a downward spiral we’d have seen a bigger fanbase.

Will say however Leeds and Bradford don’t merge into one, Leeds as a city on its own is ridiculously big to only have one professional team. In the areas between them Leeds obviously attract more fans than Bradford. They’re a bloody annoying lot as well, murals of Bielsa knocking about everywhere still even though he nearly took them down
