Maatsen did OK, but often flattered to deceive. Don't remember many assists from him. He was full of energy though and got better defensively as the season wore on. Certainly replaceable

Yup,
I didn't really see what all the fuss was about. I wouldn't have minded him coming back but we can probably do better.

He reminded me of Van Aanholt when we had him. tbf if he has a similar career to him, he'll have done alright.

Interesting take, but I don't think he is at that level. Very young though so you never know.

I certainly rated Van Aanholt, almost had a scrap with him outside Smack Nightclub in Leamington actually. He was a right rude motherfucker to pretty much anyone that so much as looked at him. He was there with Leon Best and Aron Gunnarsson!

Coleman would surely have been there with his 6 kids

Maatsen was really good in Attacking Mid, at left back he was class going forward but a bit suspect at the back.

I’d have him down as our 5th best player last season

Gyokeres
O'Hare
Hamer
Sheaf
Then there's a group I think of Maatsen, Godden, Hyam, Moore, McFadzean, Clarke-Salter, (I'd have Dabo in but too long injured).

So somewhere between 5 & 10 who were all fairly even in my eyes. Good player for this level but not a huge loss.

Said before on here before we all called him bombscare as we all dived for cover every time he swung his leg to shoot.

Good player but not sure he will ever be a premier league player?

I honestly don't think Maatsen was very good and I'm not just saying that because he's made some comments to 'Lancashire Live' or whatever.

He has youth on his side though, so there's definitely room to progress a lot. For us though I didn't think he was anything special whatsoever.
I agree, I thought he was bang average and said it at the time. He was better at AM then LWB.

Agreed that’s why robins pushed him into midfield as he was struggling at times. I’m pretty sure robins even mentioned that he was exposed at times and struggling in some games at left back/left midfield

I’d tend to agree but considering we only have Bidwell at left back atm he’s a big loss

TBF I think what he was refering to in his interview was going to a bigger club in the sense they have just left the premier league. He went on to mention a big league. He cleary feels his chances of a higher degree of success is with Burnley this season. Many would agree with that if I'm honest. However it could just as easily be a mistake. He is a big miss to our team, but there are other good players we may yet attract. Adaramola for instance looks likely to be coming in after hearing what Robin's said the other day. Defensively that would be better than Maatsen tbh and strengthen us somewhat. Bidwell will be the reserve though he has been consistent and improved with us over time.

Bidwell will be one of our highest paid players so if he’s a reserve it’s a catastrophic decision to buy him

Yeah he's first choice, or should be out the door. I suspect it's the former, and no reason why he shouldn't be either.

There will be so many games Bidwell will play plenty through the season, just not the first man on the team sheet. We are stronger this year given we get Ardamola for example.

I don't get the lack of rating for Bidwell. Sure, he didn't set the world on fire when joining us, but he wasn't... bad, either. And his record before joining us showed he's exactly the sort of signing that should lift us up a level from where we were before.

Of course there's always the possibility it doesn't work out at a club but... he at least deserves the chance to show what he can do. We should have learned that from Gyokeres's loan spell, if nothing else.

Well if so that would be, I suppose, a pleasant surprise. Brings with it other issues of course...!
