If you’re going to quote the JC - at least get all your bits together.

I’m more saying calling this person a “Labour voter” is a little disingenuous. It’s like when that covid nutter shouted at him before and everyone got all excited. I’m not sure I’d be swinging my lot in behind them as representative of the public is all.

What a shame. It seems an awful lot of money spent just to save a bit of time. Saving time on journeys seems great, but not at the cost it is going to prove to be.

HS2 is about capacity not travel times.

Is it? All I ever hear being said is how it will cut travel times.

That's news to me. I will need to reread up on it

The argument was always capacity, which is at least more acceptable. My main fear is how long before they close off the fast route from Coventry to Euston because it's no longer profitable...

I thought Coventry trains were going to get slower because of HS2. Is that not right? I thought they were going to bypass Coventry in order to speed up times for Birmingham. Isn't that part of the reason Coventry were looking to install a light/tram rail between Coventry and Birmingham? I thought Coventry were going to lose out as a result of HS2

I must confess I have been a bit switched off with it for some time now.

Yeah on a personal level that’s my concern too. I don’t think it’s good for Coventry, but I do think investment in high speed infrastructure is needed.

Of course, a nationalised rail system means it'd be less likely to close on pure profit reasons... ;)

In theory, the Coventry line stays the same, and HS2 uses a different one. In practice... you'd assume it's not that long until Coventry becomes a satellite station to Curzon Street before you get on your high speed London train.

The centrists are on a real anti renationalisation drive since Keith did his u turn, absolutely embarrassing.
They really are red tories.

You OK mate?

I want nationalisation, in fact I want extra nationalisation to create care and software for the public good. I can just also see why you might not focus on it when a large part of your pitch is “I’m not Jeremy Corbyn”.

I’ve been saying since Corbyn jumped the shark the worst thing about him was toxifying decent left wing policies and how well have to over correct to gain voter trust back.

What's this got to do with Corbyn?
When Starmer issued his ten pledges they were all over it, now its a bad idea, its hilarious.

It really is like a cult. Nothing to do with whether they like a policy, all about which way starmer tells them the winds blowing.

What it’s got to do with Corbyn is he was so toxic that we’ve got to position ourselves a million miles from him.

Nationalisation would be great, but it’s also a topic that will set alarm bells about spending off and lead to endless comparisons with Corbyns time as it was a tent pole policy for him.

Most people supporting Starmer want to win. I’ve had one Labour govenrment in my life and my kids have had 0. Id like them to get the benefit before they reach adulthood and if that means dropping a few fringe policies to put across a sensible restrained image then fine. Corbyn got two goes at his electoral strategy. I’m willing to give Keir one. If it doesn’t work then I hope the left manage to find someone with more charisma or leadership skills than a wet lettuce and can give it a proper go. And frankly their time would be better spent looking at how to make a left wing agenda electable than making up shit nicknames for the party leader with the right.

If you can’t support the idea that we try and assuage voter concerns to get elected then fair enough, but it’s going to keep happening as it’s clearly his strategy. And right now we’re ahead in the polls so he gets to keep doing it even if it wasn’t an unwritten rule that all Labour leaders get one GE campaign.

So youre suggesting Starmer needs to distance himself from Corbyn policy, and the way to do that is to commit to renationalisation when he became leader and then do a u turn just over a year later, ditto his about turn on unions and workers rights?

Why bother taking it down, he'll probably do another 180 at some point.

His radical values are he once had mushy peas with some fish and chips instead of petis pois
