What we're doing here is losing a key player for fuck all. If SBB is to be believed our vice captain is going to plug operating costs. The squad is being made weaker not following a model of buy develop sell buy, we're just making the squad weaker because the ownership won't run a championship club.

Losing Hyam and replacing with nobody or a loan is just fucking stupid squad management.

I'd hate Gyokeres to go but if it was over £10m and we signed a striker to replace him and a midfielder (for example) then it makes sense that we're progressing the squad as well as balancing the books.

our recruitment strategy frankly in the last two years has been poor as has contract extensions for players who are never going to play regularly. On a tight wage bill it’s proving an issue. We can’t afford to just have the likes of Kane and Walker seeing the contracts out, Kelly holidaying on a treatment table and the likes of palmer signing who has Amber flags everywhere. I said a couple of months ago, if the club needs to sell they need to do it at the beginning of the window and not at the opposite end otherwise it'll find itself in a position where finding an adequate replacement is going to be extremely difficult.

They have to rely on the selling club being willing to sell, which is problematic when factoring in that the issue of a lack of time to find a replacement is transferred if they accept a bid from the club.

Agree with the rest, particularly Kelly who we inexplicably gave a two year extension to.

This I take issue with, the much spoken about Brentford model involved just that, Sell Watkins for big money - sign Toney for a more modest fee.

We won't be looking at the expenditure they did but if our recruitment team (when given actual cash instead of rummaging in the bargain basement) can bring in Gyokeres, Hamer, Sheaf and O'Hare for £2-3m then we should back them to do it again.

The principle is maybe there, though. Charlton did it on a smaller scale under Curbishley. The main problem we have, however, is it seems the percentage of transfer fees required for running costs is so much, that managing to bump us up with two or three decent, solid players with potential to replace doesn't actually look possible. If we were to sell Hyam and Gyokeres, say, then as you indeed suggest it should have been done early, and there should have been four, minimum, maybe five players of a decent level through the door - and I'm not talking the gambles like Palmer, I'm talking the players with an established track record already, looking to step up.

As it stands, even if we did rustle up some cash down the sofa for a replacement, it'd be a mild rush and potentially not done as cleanly as it should.

We’re in a bit of a no man’s land by that if all reports are correct the club is quite clearly up for sale, and no owner would pump loads of money into a club they are trying to get rid of - In the meantime SISU will do the bare minimum to keep the club afloat until it is gone, player sales will obviously be a part of that and hopefully it’s just this one - Mike Ashley did it at Newcastle for years

Hopefully MR can keep us ticking along on the pitch and if we’re only to lose Hyam I think he can, selling Gyökeres would be a disaster mind you

People forget that in the summer of the St Andrews move the club would've received the second instalment from McNulty, sold both Chaplin and Bayliss as well as McCallum in January.

Conversely, the club hasn't received a windfall from a player sale/sell-on clause since Wilson was sold two years ago.

It's fairly obvious why the club is now struggling.
