I am sort of the opposite. I can hit it straight but am very poor on distance. I.e. if it was 90-100 yards to the hole I would be using a 5 iron.

I can never ever get anything approaching 200 yards hitting anything.

Started recently too. £30 for a full set of used clubs off Shpock and watched a few YouTube vids. Do weekly trips to the driving range. Play my mate once a month at an ex-municipal course by him. Not looking to get particularly good at it or start playing the Belfry. Just gets us out the house, fresh air, steps up and a break from the wives and kids 👍🏻

Drive for show, putt for dough!

I'm alright....play to about 15 if I play regular.....which I haven't for years....so these days it's for in-play banter, bets and buggy races.

I’ve got the gear… but very little idea. Bit like you can smash the ball with a driver but no control over direction.

Handicap of 12 playing twice a month in summer. If I could play 3-4 times a week I would but family, work and City get in the way. My mission in life is to get down to single figure handicap!

I would never ever get a handicap. I did once do Brandon in 78 though. You might think that's quite impressive perhaps, but that was for just the first
9 holes. 😳 Truly.

Come the 10th hole, I just gave up counting and I packed in after about the 13th, as I was holding up everyone behind me.

I do play but not very often. You have to play regular and practice a lot to get half decent. I'm very inconsistent, even when I'm playing regularly. My youngest had a set for Christmas, and we played at ansty not long ago, lost 15 balls between us over 9 holes.

Didn't you jump in the bushes to find them? I am always up afterwards! :)

Yeah, we were in there but just couldn't find them, the rough was about 2 foot high in places and a few went out of bounds.

Thats good, I always judge a round on how many balls I've lost rather than the number of strokes. So being up is equivalent of playing off scratch

They have cut a lot of the long stuff down now to be fair so it's easier to find. Depending on time there's loads to be had

I moved into a house on a golf course here in FL when i was an 18 handicap....
I now finish work, grab my clubs go over to the range and practice nearly every day.
I play in the society league every Saturday (and other days if I can get out of work)
I am now down to 8.3...

The 30 guys i play with are all interested in the Sky Blues, as I talk about them every Saturday and listen to the games.
In fact, i need to order a few home shirts as the guys love it!

Will mostly go down to Draycote Hotel driving range, the tech there gives you an idea of how you’re doing. Totally different to a course obviously.

Have been trying to play for about a year, was hoping to have been good enough to quit working and go pro. But no such luck. The guy I play with gets heavily discounted coaching through work, so he has an advantage.

I’m absolute Tom Hank at it. I could go down the range and feel ready to take on The Belfry one day, the next I could be piss poor and feel like I’ll never be any good.

Don’t suppose any of them are billionaires looking for a plaything are they?

There are a few 'Millionaires' in the community (mostly retired men) and they already have 'young-(er)' playthings.
It's an interesting night at the community gatherings working out who is with who!! :ROFLMAO:

The best thing about it all though, is that even though 98% of the community are from up north (snowbirds who have stayed) they all have the same goal..... to enjoy the sun, drink and be merry, play golf and enjoy life.
It's a pretty good combination to keep you young!

I meant the club! Although now you mention it I might be available as a gigolo depending on the fee.

Don’t play as much these days since having our first child 18 months ago, and I have been wondering recently if I’ve been losing the bug - I had been utterly obsessed for the last 5 or so years.

I play off 4 these days. Got down to 1.8 before my daughter came along.
