Not the case in the UK. In the UK if you’re a foreign national you’re allowed to vote in local elections but not general elections. I actually know someone who is a foreign national, born to foreign nationals in their home country, her family moved here when she was a baby, she was educated in this country including higher education, English is her mother tongue, she’s only ever worked in the UK, only ever paid taxes in the UK, has children born in this country, is married to a British citizen but can’t vote in a GE. Her sister born six months after they arrived can though. It’s mental. 20 years of paying tax in this country and doesn’t get a vote, non doms on the other hand do. That’s fucked up.

It's the same in Italy and I run a small business, so pay a fair whack in pension payments, tax etc but get no say in the GEs - it's so out of date.

When my oldest was a baby the banking crisis hit triggering a world recession. I was foolish enough to say thank god it’s happening now, by the time she leaves school we’ll be out the other side and the economy will be booming. She’s just started her GCSE’s and the world and especially our country is probably in the worst state I’ve ever known it. It isn’t going to be sorted by the time she finishes 6th form either.

Most commentators now suggesting he’ll do well to get 60. This will be the measure of the “man”. Not his popularity but his narcissism. If he declares himself as a candidate knowing he’s not going to get the required 100 it’s going to drive the wedge deep. He’ll be completely putting himself ahead of party. If he wants to put his party first he’ll declare he’s not running and the sooner the better for the Tories. If he tries to push it I think all he’ll achieve is gifting The Reform Party their first MP’s.
