Side point: my issue with regulation is that in my experience most of private industry basically ignores large parts of it unless they’re a huge company but every public body follows it to the letter.

When people talk about private industry outperforming public sector generally its down to poor pay, poor conditions, and a lax adherence to regulations.
That's why you need to have strong enforcement of that regulation. There us no point having rules and laws that are not backed up by action when people or companies transgress.

Glass-Steagall in the US was very good for the most part in preventing the kinds of shenanigans which caused the 2008 crisis. Bill Clinton repealing it paved the way for the madness which followed

I hope she and her husband go to prison for a long time.

Ideally Hancock too, but can't see that happening sadly.

Crooks, loads of it was rubbish anyway, she has taken a leave of absence to clear her name so she will never go back as that seems an impossible task. Should have her ridiculously given titles stripped.

I was thinking more health and safety and inclusion and working practices than financial regulation but yea I’d agree

Fucking hell, that is a shocking report.

This isn't a fluffy opinion piece. This is decent, at times boring but absolutely necessary journalism.

The last sentence nails it for me.

It's pretty clear that these are not the only people involved, there are myriad conservatives involved in the whole scandal at many levels and it would be fortunate for them for one or two fall guys who incidentally are not MPs to take the hit for it.

The rumour on twitter is they already done a runner to Honduras which by complete coincidence has no extradition agreement with the UK

He accuses doctors and nurses of not wanting better health outcomes for patients. I'm sure if teachers go on strike he'll say we don't want better educational outcomes for children.

With Labour MPs like him who needs the Tories?

Or more worryingly, with Labour MPs like him, who needs Labour when we've got the tories.

Streeting is a c**t. He’s one you won’t hear me defending from accusations of being right wing. Even as NUS President he was a right wing prick. How the fuck do you manage that as NUS President FFS?
I take it Starmer will now sack him from the front bench for this? Or is it a lesser offence than going on a picket line?

This however is as mental as all the Tories complaining that Sunak and Hunt are “socialists”.

Is it as mental as slating a tory for taking donations from the private health sector or for butting heads with the unions but defending Labour MPs when they do it?

its not at all comparable and you know it. Calling writing extreme anti union law and saying a specific union needs to change on a specific issue are oranges and apples.

I get it, you’re desperate for a reason to hate Labour. But saying they’re the same as the Tories is just insane I’m sorry. They’re not as left wing as you would like. Thats it. Spreading this sort of nonsense just help the Tories and pushes left wing people out of any chance they might have of engaging with a party that is far more receptive to them.

He’s putting the blame on medical unions instead of the government which has neglected the sector for 12.5 years. That’s what the issue is.

Not much to ask for Labour to show support for the organisations which created it

Radio interview this morning saying Labour would double the number of trainee nurse places available, and invest in people. That hook is one I can get behind...

I've got lots of reasons to dislike Starmers Labour.
Im avtually desperate for a reason to like them other than they're not the tories.

And there's a huge difference between 'not as left wing as I would like' and parroting the tories.
We all know why the NHS is collapsing under this government, its not the BMA.

Sky news seems to be giving it the soft voices on the gov't and why no rises or limitation of them are required..
Can't interfere on independent review body etc .
BTW who are they?

And that’s exactly what Streeting says in his article. They aren’t parroting the Tories at all. But they are positioning themselves closer to the centre to get elected.

Good to see some corrupt politicians get dragged in front of a judge.
Imagine a world where politicians are held to a basic code of practice. We could call it something like a Code of Practice. Something that the government couldn’t ignore. We can but dream.

Well he's not gone down well with health workers but he's gone down well in the Spectator.
I don't think even Blair wanted that particular 'snarling dog in the corner of the room'.

Health workers already vote Labour, same as teachers. It’s people like @CCFCSteve who they’re trying to reach.

I’ve said before on here that I think union hostility to modernisation and productivity improvements is self defeating. That’s not a right wing position, it’s a pro worker position. I do want the NHS using its world leading data to make care more available and more affordable to the state so we can hire more staff. The number one concern I hear from my GF in the NHS is staffing and ridiculously outdated systems.

Lest we forget if we listened to unions on everything we’d have no NHS, nuclear weapons galore and coal mines still. They’re generally a force for good but they’re not infallible or always even left wing.

Criticise his desire to pump money into private healthcare to bring down waiting lists all you want. But this idea that the Labour Party should just do whatever unions say is silly. And there’s a reason their biggest donors are still unions regardless.
