Concerning though as they probably have a negative mindset in real life too. Not good for them or their kids etc

Ok that was a bit deep lol
I think the mindset is positive that the club doesn’t do something negative.

Like splodge what little money we have on nonsense.

Many on here would rather risk and invest in future talent, having a positive mindset to nurture and grow.

That.

We don't run the club. Have to trust the manager who has done so much for us. If he wants a player let's be happy if he gets him.

Many on here think they are playing Championship manager. You need Championship experience in the team also. As said if the manager has been told he's got a bit of money and this is how he chooses to spend some of it then good luck to him.

I don’t understand why you are so hung up on this
For the same reason people get hung up about Hilssner - if you’re going to throw around £400k when you’re in our financial position then you better get it right.

I say you definitely need one experienced player in the central roles for the spine of a team, then those around them can be younger, so going by that 1 in 4 first team signings should be a bit older.

As I have said earlier,I reckon Jamie is decent,I just think ccfc should get him on a free transfer (very similar situation to the Jake Bidwell deal last year).
It seems his initial contract with Swansea was a 12 month deal, recently extended based on appearances, rumoured to be on £9k a week.

Imagine thinking godden hasn’t been a good signing

Godden was a good signing.

I’ll repeat.

Godden was a good signing.

However.

Extending his contract after his injuries and then turning down £££ from daft Huddersfield (and then selling Hyam)?

Genius according to some.

The art is knowing when to cash in and stop chucking £££.

A free transfer signed for a different position in a different division. Not a great comparison.

We have G on here who is first in the queue to criticise Palmer as a waste of funds. Now we have him saying it's fine to spend a 6 figure fee on someone older and also not wanted by their current club after some indifferent form.

We're in the twilight zone

I agree. It is like the twilight zone.

As for Patterson. He's apparently a shit player who will be a complete waste of money, time and effort to sign. Hope G sticks this on his Excel sheet.

As long as we get an experienced CB in as well, then happy enough to spend 250k+ on Patterson. Can’t imagine there’s many better choices with decent championship experience for same/less than that

The only experienced CB we can afford is someone like Richard Wood at Rotherham.

Bad attitude, nearing retirement, lightweight and costing us most of our budget. What can go wrong.

Get Injured in his first training session.

Godden was a good signing at 28. Turning down money at 31? Mad.

Adebayo would have been better at 22.

Vik for £750k is / was even better.

Waghorn bad.

Patterson for £400k bad.

Look,

We are a club that had to sell one of our best defenders to pay some bills recently.

To have future success we need to think through each and every bit of transfer business. Some people have either short memories or are hard of thinking. £400k or £250k or whatever on Patterson is madness for all of the reasons the sane posters on here mentioned.

It's incredible what 'I don't think we should spend £400k on x player' leads some people to think your opinions are. It apparently means anything from

You don't want King to inject funds into the transfer budget
You think the player himself is poor
You don't think the club should sign anyone over 30
You don't think £400k is a trivial amount that we won't miss if it goes wrong

It's bizarre. If Robins is correct and no extra money is incoming from King, I don't see how we can chuck a 6 figure sum plus wages on someone who hasn't performed this season and who's the wrong side of 30 in his position.

Its the length of contract that would be my concern with this deal. We cant be lumbered with players in a stand on decent money on long contracts. We already been down that road and its shit. If we can get him on a year with an option of 1 more then i think its an ok deal. Anything more i fear its the wrong way to go.

Didn't realise it was a straight choice between Godden and Adebayo. What fascinating hindsight.

Godden got us promoted, he was massively important. We shouldn't have turned down money in the summer I'll agree on that but let's not play down what an important player he has been.

The 400k has been plucked from nowhere and it's really bizarre people are fixating on it. But regardless its not a large amount of money.

If it isn’t then our last 2 summer transfer windows are curious reading

It was actually a choice between Tyler Walker and Matty Godden. The former (young, full of potential, tipped for the top) turned us down and we spent £750k on the bloke who couldn’t get in Peterborough’s starting XI.

Adebayo was knocking around League two not pulling up any trees on loan the time we signed Godden. Lot of hindsight going on here.

we need someone who’s gonna come in and do something for us now. 400k is obviously something Robins is willing to spend. King has probably given him funds. In the grand scheme of things considering we paid 750k for a player that got us promoted - 400k is half that for a player who was still performing at this level last season. By all accounts it’s 250 rising to 400 which means the rest is dependant on performance.

let’s trust Robins here and see how Paterson gets on
