Even more worrying, some of the hermits that patrol the off topic chat might actually end up on a football thread!

theirs zero chance - Tony will assume Allen is a Tory protagonist

Didn’t you agree we all need to bouncing around singing even if it is Jamie ‘The Little Hitler’ Allen on the ball?
As there seems to be constant calls for taxis for certain individuals surely the German national anthem?

As an assessment of Allen:

I think he often takes the safe pass. So while I could see him having a good completion percentage I don't agree he tries to get us moving forward. I think he holds up attacks and allows opposition to get back in position. Like Stephen Hughes used to.

His shooting should be a bit better, but he has scored a few more goals this year so he's getting in the position more and I'd say he's improved in this respect. He's missed some very good chances though. But so has Vik and that's supposed to be his main job.

In terms of jockeying players to slow down opposition attacks allowing us to get back, that may well have truth in it, but there must be a point where we're in position and he has to try and challenge for the ball? While you don't want a player to dive in they can't just endlessly shadow a player without at some point trying to win the ball either, and I feel that largely what he does.

Of course his stamina and running are without question. He's like the sacrificial lamb to let others do their thing.

In terms of being given the captain's armband, I don't think he should have. I'm sure he's a model professional that leads by example, but you need a captain to actually be talking, motivating and managing players through games, as well as probably getting at the ref. I don't think Allen does that at all.

In summary, you'd prefer it if he wasn't starting but would be more than happy for him to be in the squad. But as it stands with our squad and the injuries (his workrate is important without O'Hare) he's playing a more prominent role than he probably should at this level.

This is going in the 'never to be forgotten' folder along with Kenny Jackett

To think he's denigrated ex-colleagues on here for their shit analysis.

He certainly gives his all, but he just doesn't have the quality to truly influence games. For me, only in because of poor Callum's injury. Does worry me that he gets the arm band too.
Without his contributions we are a minimum 7 points worse off

This is a very dumb way to look at football. It’s as bad as “we get x PPG when he plays”. Like Viks goals, we wouldn’t just be playing with ten men. Who is to say we wouldn’t have won more with a different player in?

It's dumb if it's jamie allen , great if it's sheaf or vik etc .

You've given the lad nothing

I actually think allen has been off form recently .. I just think your viewpoint in general is incredibly harsh

The irony is I’m accused of irrational hatred - and even racism - regarding the likes of Biamou Cuffey palmer - yet the slime and hatred dished out on Allen and Dabo is beyond anything I’ve seen on here

Ive never made that argument about Sheaf or Hamer, cos it’s a dumb argument. I’ve said as much about Vik, who I rate highly. You’re just scrabbling around at this point.

Allen runs a lot. I’ve never denied that. I just think he doesn’t contribute enough on the ball and is actively detrimental to our attacking play. And at DM he’s completely pointless.

Do you honestly think if o hare was fit and playing and Palmer was given the Allen role he could do the same coverage?

Not sure which bit of “Allen runs a lot. I’ve never denied that” is causing you trouble. Let me know and I’ll see if I can help you out.

Allen presses forward - covers back - closes people down rarely misplaces passes - without him we’d be fucked as o hare isn’t in the team. Which is why he’s first name on the team sheet

I'm not really scrabbling , I'm actually yet to hear anything that even makes sense from you in the debate .. it's simply " he does nothing with the ball " and that's it .

I bet you have no issue with this stat for example?

This stat will be OK though right ?

I’ll have my 50p that he hardly plays next season and moves on come January 24.

On a side note he appears a right miserable so and so. Never appears to be enjoying his job?

Funny, because he's never happier than when he's torturing people by pulling their teeth out without anaesthetic, can't stop laughing away

Well I have only just skimmed through this thread so forgive me for not knowing the detail of the arguments.

There seems to be an argument that Allen gets a disproportionate amount of criticism and I think I even saw the word vitriol used. This seems bizarre to me. The criticism I see of him tends to be fairly mild and is generally along the lines of he has improved but is still limited at Championship level. Probably a reasonable squad player but if we are ambitious and looking for promotion we need better in the starting eleven.

The comments are mild compared to those made about players like Biamou, Walker, Palmer, Norton-Cuffy and Wilson. Some of the comments about them have been totally unfair in my view. Sheaf and Bidwell have also come under totally unfounded criticism at times, well in excess of anything relating to Allen.

In my view Allen has been much better this season as a whole but since the Workd Cup has regressed. I thought he was really poor on Saturday. He was also non existent at Sheffield United. I don't dislike him, in fact I respect that he has made a career at this level through hard work. In the first season back I couldn't see him surviving at this level.

As for anyone who boos any of our players at a match, I just wish they would go and do something else, or support another team. Allen has my full support every time he plays. The same even applied to Wagehorn, but that's a different story.

Commenting on here about the relative merits of players is fine. It would be boring if we all said they are all great. But anything that undermines individual players at matches is off limits in my view. Also some of the personal comments about players especially saying they are lazy when they clearly aren't is also unfair.
