He'd probably have gone for Moldova if they had steamrollered through Ukraine like they expected they would.

When Zelensky says that they’d refuse peace negotiations while Russia is in Ukraine territory, does this include Crimea?

He’ll get leaned on by the west to change that then, IMO.

The parameters the west deem acceptable to its own interests for any support should have been made clear at the beginning

How rich is the Ukranian president now?

He it seems earns £12,000 a year as president but oddly his net worth was reported at £500 million. Then hastily lots of denials were issued when the war started and it was downgraded to £20 million

I assume the cayman island accounts were hushed away somewhere

The US has been clear that ceding Crimea as part of any negotiations is not an option.

That may change of course, but that's their stance at the moment anyway.
But why now when it was annexed 8 years ago? It's almost as if the Americans want ongoing conflict

Ultimately don't think so. Russia will fight much harder (and longer,) for Crimea. Don't think the external support for Ukraine will stomach a protracted fight over Crimea.

I’d be surprised if they’d be no leaning on them if there was a genuine chance for peace - having that as a red line means it’ll go on for years yet….if the west continues to fund it.

Lets get Russia out of the rest of the country and then see. TBH I think Crimea would fall pretty quick if they managed that. Just destroy the bridge and it’s not really possible to supply it.

Key to all of this is what security guarantees Ukraine can get to end the conflict.
Crimea is a major threat as that is where much of the Russian war materials are being brought in from.
If NATO membership is a red line for Russia what can be put in place to protect Ukraine in the future? Ukraine obviously unable to fund its own defence for the foreseeable future due to massive cost of rebuilding the country.
It's possible the backdoor is Ukrainian EU membership with the subsequent protection of the EU army that many states seem to be pushing for but that is in the mid-term not short-term future

Ukraine were not in a position to be fight back then. So unless you wanted the US to declare war on Russia I'm not sure what else you expected them to do?

Ukraine aren’t able to fight back now with out a significant waste of nato milatary hardware and resources

i expect a non nato country to deal with its own mess unless the nato alliance get something back

I’m not seeing much reward from a cost benefit perspective

The US would massively disagree with you. They are seeing an incredible return for very little investment.

Do I see a comparison between international reactions to illegal annexation then being changed after the annexing party goes further? Yes, yes I do.

So you think Putin will mobilise his army and start marching through the EU and turn it into the next USSR?

Well it’s a theory I suppose

Are they? Well of course it’s in the US interest for this war to go on for a decade isn’t it?

Yes they are, it's extremely obvious.

It's in their interests to significantly weaken Russia as much as possible without having to declare war on them.

Genuinely not sure if you have reading comprehension issues or are just a terrible troll. Either way it’s boring.

Someone suggesting Hitler and Putin have similar ideology, aims and are as much of a threat are the ones trolling not me - I don’t see a threat I see collateral damage as unfortunate but an acceptable and inevitable fact regarding Ukraine and Russia

So it carries on for 10 years with more death torture and destruction

Nice

They will never declare war on them

Got you, it’s reading comprehension issues. Good luck with that.
