I believe it was a respected Russian female journalist and human rights activist Olga Romanova who broke the story. Pretty sure it names her in most of the articles. IIRC they’ve not been recruited by the Wagner group but Russian military directly as Wagner has apparently stopped recruiting prisoners so the Russian military are doing it directly.
