Icons. Wallace on goals per game - would make any modern era City team. Not to mention the iconic kit and hair.
Fergie is very under-rated in that partnership as well - goals per game just slightly less than Dion's.

Gibsons goals per game is better than Wallaces, that's why I went for him. He played in far worse teams as well.
Wallace was a great player for us and did ok at Forest as well though I'll leave it to forest supporters to decide whether he lived up to the price paid for him.

Regis and Gallacher.
I think these 2 would also be as effective these days as they were then. Perhaps not the best finishers compared to Quinn, Dublin & Gibson but both technically excellent with pace and skill

Perhaps the combination would have produced more goals for each, who knows. Some players just click right away.

I did think whether to have Quinn in my front two but, aside from the purple patch of scoring he had (maybe due to his pairing with Rosario) he didn’t seem consistent. Or maybe fitness or attitude was to blame, whichever.

Was never the same without Ferguson

Agree, on the top of their game, the best players we have had in their respective positions. Feel West Brom had the best of Regis before he went off the rails and Blackburn the best of Gallacher. Fortunately for us, Regis regained form after he cut out the night clubbing but sadly was never quite as good again than his early years at West Brom

McGoldrick was absolute mustard when he was here.

Not enough games to be a part of the Photoshop, but what a player (briefly)!

I think the move to Forest was completely wrong for him CVD - incredible pressure given the fee at the time. Terry Gibson was brilliant for us and I agree he was in weaker teams - so it's a fair argument you are making. But Wallace has the better goals per game record - albeit close.

Ferguson actually turned down a move to Forest before Wallace went there so potentially they could have both been at Forest, that would have been interesting.

And apparently the story goes, the reason why was while discussing terms Brian Clough was critical of Ferguson’s beard and Mick took the hump about it.
Ipswich were very interested at the time but it didn’t happen and he joined Everton.

Remember Bobby Robson saying he wasn’t worth the money before we played them. Fergie scored 4 as we won 4-1

That’s true, I guess I was looking back nostalgically at how he tore up the second division in our championship year. Maybe he would have done better staying with us, although you couldn’t blame him for joining Arsenal. On the subject of Gould, does anyone remember a night game against Ipswich, December 1964? Freezing cold. We won 5-0 and Gould scored a first half hat-trick. i remember it well, because we’d just had the new scoreboard installed, and it showed 999. The Mirror (my dad’s paper) the next day ran the headline with a photograph of the scoreboard ‘999 but no help for Ipswich’.
Thought it was just me imagining the 999 thing on the CET scoreboard! Was it really as early as '64? Blimey. I was only eleven if that's the case. Was stood on the Sky Blue terrace, presumably with my dad. If asked, I'd have thought it a bit later. Live and learn!

You’re right Kneeza, it was Dec 1966 👍

I’m still disappointed that after 4 pages on the best Coventry strikers no-one has gone for the binmen…..

And the Bus driver's.

But my favourite was the Car Workers, back in the 70s .

My best pairing would be Dublin and Mickey Quinn. Dublin to rip them to bits and Quinn to knock in every ball that came to him. The defenders used to bounce off him. Quickest player over 1 yard and rarely missed the target.

Based on their performances for us I would say Dublin and Gibson.

Keane was a more talented player but was only with us for a year at the start of his career.

Ferguson and Wallace by far the best partnership.

Yes it was later, December 1966, when I was 11. Sorry about that! But still a great evening!

Is it commonly accepted that Grendel and Boosh are the same person or are they just some kind of internet double act?
