Will we be better next season if we don’t go up?

Gyok will almost certainly be off. There is a good chance Hamer goes as well. Doyle will go back to Man City and McFadzean will be a year older so our back line will be a shambles. The only bit of hope I’m seeing is that Sheaf and Palmer will likely still be with us.

For me, the playoffs are do or die. If we lose I genuinely think we’ll struggle next season.
I would temper that with we MIGHT struggle next season

We have to recruit well. Replacing the likes of Gyokeres and Hamer with the same quality is a big ask.

In Gyokeres’ case I would say it’s impossible. Tricky job for the recruitment team this summer definitely. Hopefully they get it right

Are you able to find the match thread today mate? Need me to show you?
It’s on the ignore list of wankers like you on here, isn’t it? Fuck off and let us real supporters enjoy the season, if you can’t find any comfort in that, go somewhere else.

Real supporters? I’ll actually be there tonight so I’m a ‘real supporter’ compared to 95% of the losers on here

I think they will and they will also hopefully be given enough of the Gyo and Hamer fees to do it with. Important not to forget they were both signed for low 7 figure fees and developed into some of the league’s best players. Confident we can do it again but across more of the squad, but it will take time for a high number of new players to bed in.

How we all feeling?
A wave of optimism from me, difficult game but believe we can do it. Footballs a funny game, never know whats going to happen, we could create no real chances all game but bang in a couple of 30 yarders and win 2-0.

Expecting defeat so not all that nervous. If we take the lead however…

Pretty much the same. First goal is vital. If we get it then I think we stand a chance of winning. If we go into the break trailing or it's all evens then I think we'll struggle.

Fatigue and squad depth is likely going to play a big factor in deciding this result. Everyone bar Eccles has played a full 90 minutes over the past two games so expect tired legs, especially in the second half, which I think Middlesbrough will capitalise on.

Post a photo on here to prove it then, you’re probably just a keyboard imagineer. You say you have grandkids, what a example you must be setting them.

So have their team? Their fans won’t be so chilled as us if they don’t get a lead, expect massive pressure from the stands. I see Giles has been spouting off again, very gobby for a loanee. Most of their loans will be off at the end of the season, so they’ll be a different looking team next season

Their bench is far superior and they've made several substitutions in both fixtures which will help with R&R for their players.

Equally, given their age I think McFadz and Kelly will be feeling it tonight. It's a big ask, especially for Kelly who hasn't really played all that much this season, to play three games in nine days.

With the club also sweating over Hamer's fitness I think the fatigue element will cause us issues.

some people overlook what we have done all season, and think its all of a sudden Manchester city v Nuneaton Borough ffs, we are 2 evenly matched teams and we have managed with the same squad all season

There does seem to be an acceptance it’s good enough to be the bridesmaid and not the bride on here.

It could be a one off opportunity. None of the relegated teams are in the play offs and the league is very tight - the relegated teams next season are likely to be strong and we have a new squad to be build

A game against Middlesbrough and Luton to reach the premier league will be as “easy” as it’s going to get.

I agree. This is our best chance and could be for some time to come.

Nowhere near as nervous as I expected to be. Didn’t think we would be in playoffs so tonight is a bonus and I hope we capitalise on it. Yes we are underdogs but that will suit us and if we don’t concede early their fans/players might get increasingly frustrated.

Having said that I believe the Championship will be extremely strong next season and matching this season’s achievement will be difficult.

I'm not really saying they won't be...

As I indicated in my previous post I suspect they'll cause us issues in the second half when they can utilise their bench to try and change the game if needed, or sustain momentum if they're in the lead. We don't particularly have that luxury.

It's pretty vital we get an early goal to pile the pressure on them from the off.

You might be right, but a LOT of people were saying this last season when we fell away. Robins and co. are building a body of evidence that warrants us having some confidence and trust that they can handle set backs, or falling short, and somehow still find a way to progress again the following season.
