I might have agreed with that valuation of hamer at the start of the season, but I'd be seriously disappointed with that return after the season he's had (after the red cards). He's managed double figures for goals and assists (only one assist behind Giles), halved his number of yellow cards from last season, he's 3rd in the league for "big chances created", he's at or near the top in a lot of the average match ratings stats I've seen (interestingly so is Ryan Manning who's currently available on a free!) And has won 5 MOTM awards in his last 7 games!
That's got to be worth more than £5million?

If we do get promoted Manning is the sort of player we should go for. Instead of current PL players I would rather we try to pick up the best from the Championship who are likely to have more hunger and upside about them in terms of sell on fees.

For me there is only one scenario, solidifying the squad looking at top half championship going up or not. Robins has the knack of finding players who are willing to be part of a team, whether they play or not, look at Maguire seems to fill his role in the ‘ team spirit’ department without getting a game Panzo another player with the same attitude the last couple of months.
Also , case in point, Chelsea and Tottenham just look like a bunch of overpaid and expensive players without any will to help each other. I think Robins will of course look at footballing quality but will make sure the character of the player is the one of the top ’skills’.
Then again. what do I or any of us really know?

Maybe. But maybe not, depends who we can pick up, there’s plenty of foreign players available at a fraction of the cost of established PL players of the same quality.
If you want to spunk every penny on trying to stay up, it’s a risky strategy. Better to keep doing what we’re doing just on a bigger scale. We’ve got very few players with extensive Championship experience before coming to us in our current team.
Like you said this season.

I think Brentford have the lowest published wage bill and have some ok. I’d suspect there are promotion bonuses in the contracts which last time was circa 50% - players will want premier league money to come. We have i think only 2 premier league loans so forget Cuffey

Which is sometimes the only option. The problem we have is we don’t have an international scouting network. The likes of Brighton is amazing in terms of the foreign signings they make. Of course we’ve had Leo and now Vik from their network. I would want us to emulate what they’ve done.

Not once they get relegated, there are clauses in all the Leicester players contracts that dramatically slash their wages if relegated.
Of course there will be other Premier league sides that will look to sign him, with Tottenham, Newcastle and West ham rumoured to be interested.

If we are looking abroad the Japanese/ Korean market looks to be a potentially good one. Caught a bit of the Brighton/ Arsenal game last week and Mitoma looked a hell of a player. I believe Celtic have successfully targetted signings from that part of the world too.
Whilst I agree the foreign market is the way to go, Brighton have an incredible scouting system. I would love to emulate them.

Robins plays a certain system so I’m sure he’ll recruit players to supplement that, whichever league we are in we need lots of players.
But it’s a tough task in the prem, Brighton have been tremendous and could still pip Liverpool for fifth spot but are likely to lose main men McCallister and Mitoma in the summer to so-called bigger boys.

Fair enough. He’ll get interest from clubs in the top 6-8 won’t he so the only way he’s joining us again is probably if we’re in the top flight and he’s in his twilight years. The only way it’ll be sooner than that is if we quickly become a top 10 Prem team which I can’t see anytime soon.

Why you need a squad cap. Ridiculous the number of young players nowhere near the top teams first XI on wages even a lot of Championship clubs can't afford and then being loaned out. We need to get this talent filtering down the pyramid and letting others teams benefit financially from their progression.

I thought the loaning out of players was reducing which should help spreading talent around. We have loans here who might become regulars at their parent clubs but long shots, Doyle the prime example has it in him but will City wait for him when they can recruit any player in the world.
