Robinson and Moeen are getting whacked all over the gaff

Dont actually see what Robinson brings at all, surely Mark Wood was a better option?

Think there may have been concern about workload. They don’t really know how much Stokes will be able to bowl and Wood can only be used in short bursts.

Great point Dave. I did wonder if there was any way of squeezing extra bowler in but would very difficult. Still gutted that we’re unlikely to see Archer play at test level again. Such a talent

No ball was given pretty quickly for something that looked very close, especially given it was at a stage of the day where the line pretty much isn't there any more

Fine margins, the no ball, missed stumping and missed caught behind, as well as that one that's just gone between keeper and slip, could be the difference

Khawaja was the key one. Carey’s a more than respectable batsman but once you’re through to Cummins and the rest of the bowlers you’d fancy us to knock them off reasonably quickly.

All not lost though, important morning session tomorrow.

Anyone thinking a day 1 declaration might have been a mistake?

Considering we didn’t take any wickets last night, an extra 20-30 for us and 14 less for them could be the difference. I guess we’ll find out.

All massive. The Aussies have certainly had their fair share of luck so far in this test. As well as above, Brooks wicket first innings was a freak. Having said that no balls always piss me off and I honestly knew that might happen with stokes or broad as they were regularly overstepping. Frustrating and sloppy

The declaration is the just the way we play these days and without the missed chances wouldnt have been much of a talking point

Foakes has to play. Try and persuade Bairstow to open (if not Pope/Brook), drop Crawley

Crawley played well and looked more solid than he has been. It’s Ducket who might be more at threat. Great catch by Bairstow in the morning but that missed stumping was poor at this level and another pivotal moment

FINALLY!

Hell of a knock that, proper test innings from Khawaja. Hopefully this tail doesn’t wag too much. Limit them to a lead of 20 max and I’ll be happy from where we were.

Great come back by England. Good plans/fields, accurate bowling and dried up the runs before bouncing tail out. All done on a flat pitch

Currently thunder and heavy rain over in Birmingham. V dark. Hopefully we’ll only come back out if it properly clears.

Brook is worrying me

Looks like hes won a raffle to play

That over might help

He’s a very good player bound to be nervous though. Looked great first innings but was very unlucky, freak wicket.

Cummins also looking good though. Could do with seeing him off
