I think people overstate the value of sell on clauses tbh... Works great woth someone like Maddison who clearly had huge potential and big moves ahead, but for someone already in their prime Id much rather have cash locked in that the potential to make money fuether down the line.

He could always get injured, lose form or run down his contract wherever he ends up and then we get fuck all in the future.

Yup, would be bad financial dealing to give 35% of a flat fee.

Portuguese clubs normally do it as the full % of economic rights. A hangover from the part ownership days. They’re essentially paying €20m for 65% of his f economic rights

Agreed, he’s grown into a talisman kind of player. He was for us and with this move, he’s on course to do the same at Sporting and the Swedish national side. Only injury can stop him reaching a top team in Europe within a few years.

He seems very driven , players like that usually don't get worse before their 30s , viks also quite unique , not that many forwards like him
