I really like Sheaf but he's nowhere near the player Hamer is. Waiting for Sick Boy to appear now.

Apples and oranges. They play two totally different roles for the team. Too many FM managers who think Kelly Sheaf Hamer Allen and Eccles are interchangeable because they’ve all got CM as their position.

yeh, the only thing for certain is that Sheaf and Hamer are the best 2 and arguably the best 2 in the division.

I mean , when we talk about the brentford model .. isn't this exactly what they do .. the return on investment is monstrous .. 2.2 million To 32/35 million

They also paid over £40 million in wages in the championship and the owner ploughed £100m in

The reality is if Gus doesn't sign a new contract then he will be sold,we can't afford to let him go for free at the end of his contract much like the situation with Vik.
Just hope he does accept what is for Coventry a very good contract offer

If he's worth 15 with one year left, how much is he worth under a new 4 year deal? I understand selling Vic, he wanted to go, whereas Gus seems like he'd be happy to stay. Dug Out

as most have said, if he signs excellent, if he doesnt, he clearly wants out and so we move on, as hard as it is to say.

if we can add 5/6 £3m players with the Gyok/Hamer money, we will be in a better place than we have been for a long time in terms of finances and squad depth, and i dont necessarily think we need to make all those signings in this window
Don’t forget those 5/6 players need paying, so it isn’t just a matter of putting all the money back in. Need to consider FFP rules whilst ensuring we are not breaking our own bank on wages. Would imagine if we were to be able to reinvest all the transfer funds if Gus was to go, the figure on spending would be more like 8-9m.

Losing Brereton-Diaz for nothing has worked well for Blackburn

Totally agree, let’s not forget, it won’t be the club not trying and Gus himself will not be holding the club to ransom but his agent will be on overtime and pushing like mad for more money, whether this is with us or another club.
You do realise that agents are hired by players and are instructed by players - they're not the ones forcing their clients to move ffs.

I keep seeing this but it isn’t the norm - Coventry v Luton in the play off final was not expected.

next season I fully expect it to go back to its normal self.
huddersfield and Luton got in the play offs last year, Barnsley the year before - the normal is that there is room for 1 or 2 teams to over perform

A player will always have an agent and in some cases the arm round the shoulder, the investor, the personal manager etc so it isn’t always the player, taking into consideration the agent gets a cut of that monthly/ weekly wage “ffs” 🤷🏻‍♂️

So you think we hadn't identified potential replacements for Gyokeres ahead of this summer? I'd find that extremely unlikely.

No. What am I saying is that I don't believe we do as a matter of course, I don't think we succession plan in the way that Brentford or Brighton do. Gyokeres granted we had but we had clearly anticipated receiving a big fee for him and made plans. If Hamer was to go in the next week or two I'm not sure such advanced plans would be in place unless signing Kelly for another year is it.

Why on earth would you think they haven't planned for that eventuality? That would be absurdly stupid.

Who have we had that far above the level in the last 25 years? I’d argue Vik and before him it was Keane.
Maddison, Wilson - I realise they were young when they left, but in terms of talent both genuinely top flight / international level. So far (and especially the last few months) Gus has proved himself a cracking Championship midfielder and I really hope he stays.

They were young lower league prospects really. We were never going to get £10m+ for them. If we were at this level and kept them a couple more years maybe.

Not sure if you're just naive, clueless or both.

I agree. It would be nice if we could get to the position where the replacements are already signed long before we get to the point of stars leaving, ready to step up.
