He doesn't need to be fit to implement Gibbos tactics, he can just ride round on a shop mobility scooter brandishing a lump hammer.

To be fair, half the population of Coventry could do that, and you wouldn't have to provide the scooter. Leave Allen to chill.

I’d take it if it’s 8-10 million plus McNally, solves our defence whilst allowing us to get a replacement
Problem with that is, it could only happen of Gus would sign for them - If I was him I'd be looking at a club less likely to struggle, or he's running down his contract to return to Holland.

Bidwell should start 100% he’s our best lwb/lb and was played a big part in our defence being as good as it was last season.

Don't agree and I don't think Mark Robins agrees with you either. Da Silva definitely 1st choice atm. He'd have started Bidwell yesterday otherwise.

We're clearly changing the way we play, much more emphasis on playing out from the back and also getting WBs higher up the pitch, Da Silva much more suited to this.

I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the 1st time.

I think the issue is that the only reported interest comes from Burnley and Leeds, plus speculative interest from Fulham.

Thats another reason for the protracted issue: Hamer waiting to see if other interest emerges.

While i think you have a point, Dasilva played yesterday as he had missed the prevous 2 games and needed fitness

I get your point but what has bidwell done wrong to not start? He was solid last season.

Nothing and I like him, I just think Da Silva is better suited to the way we are looking to play.

That said, can't rule out Bidwell starting at Leicester, we may play a little more conservatively there. Longer term though, I think MR sees Da Silva as 1st choice, but this can all change based on performances obviously.

It's not about whether he's done anything wrong, it's about improving the team, regardless of how well someone did last season.

Wilson did nothing wrong last season but could be no2 this year. Allen did nothing wrong last season but will likely be further down the pecking order.

I think Bidwell will start against Leicester and will get a lot of game time through the season, but I think Dasilva was signed to be first choice.

Agreed. Robins has never been afraid to upgrade when he sees fit, one example being Jack Grimmer. First choice all season, goal in playoff final, most of us were quite happy with him, but MR thought the position needed an upgrade so he did.
I don’t think the position is as clear with Bidwell, I think it will be horses for courses - Bidwell when he wants to keep it tight and Dasilva as a more attacking, fluid option. I suspect both will get plenty of game time, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him start Bidwell on Sunday, given the quality of the opposition. Hopefully with recent additions he won’t need to use Bidwell as LCB anymore, although he has filled in well there when needed.

Having both Bidwell and Da Silva is good for competition and options for MR. My first impression was that Bidwell was going to leave.

Now, I don’t think there will be a clear first choice. Bidwell has a track record of getting assists and think he could link up well with Simms. He’s a player who’s been involved with playoff teams (Swansea, Brentford and now us).

Leicester still in Thailand and playing Liverpool this morning. Their preparation for the start of the season has been shambolic with little match action. Great time to play them and hopefully they’re still slightly jet lagged next Sunday.

Have they only played the one friendly (Northampton) before today? That can't be right!?

I guess that’s why we all love football and the different opinions. Out of all the new signings Da Silva is the only one I’m a bit unsure about. I went to FGR and Exeter so can only comment on those games and to me I’d start Bidwell over him. My main concern is Da Silva first touch from a long pass, he simply doesn’t control them. At least 3 times at FGR it happened and went out of play even more so yesterday. Twice in the penalty area when we were attacking and it went out for a goal kick.

I’m okay with what we have to put a decent team out but not really a clue what our defence will be, Dasilva looked okay but a bit rusty, as did Dinks for his half hour and we also have Van Ewijk, Down to MRs judgement now.

He literally trapped 2 out of the air yesterday like they were from 2 yards away. from diagonal balls. Comments around me about how good his control was.

Watching Leicester play Liverpool, they pack midfield are hard to break down and attack on the break. If we don't go 3 in midfield we will be overrun. Who will be the loan striker? Ellis movement is not there yet and Godden doesn't look a serious goal threat.

So about a 30% rate of controlling the ball.
Watch back the highlights, second half especially.
