Again they were one of the worst premier league teams in history. They got 25 points. They have no backbone, they may well go on to win this match but they won’t finish in the top two

Typical Martin team, a million passes but a bit soft at the back

Better teams than Wednesday of which there are many could really get at them

Honestly I’m not that impressed by Soton. Think Sheff Wed sat back too deep and allowed Soton space to pick out the 2 goals.

Soton the new Swansea.

Against us world beaters but Tika taka passes without any shots will not win the league.

They’ve players who will be sold too.

Talk of their imminent promotion is premature to say the least.

Southampton will be interesting. Young, talented squad that can grow, great manager who seems tactically aware and a man manager. If they do lose Ward-Prowse they might look a bit lost if they don’t get a leader on the pitch to replace him. Will be interesting to see how they get on against the stronger championship teams though and didn’t create many clear opportunities for all their possession.

Rule changes are going to be interesting if they don’t slowly get forgotten about as season goes on…

Has that ever been enforced? Keepers well and truly took the piss last season, Wilson included.
This is the problem. They don’t enforce half of what they set out to and half of the new directives and rules fade out through the season.

They were stamping out time wasting two season ago. We had all those spells of 8 minutes injury time where we kept equalising and by the end of the season it disappeared. Prem was more consistent with it tbf.

Got to think with the American influx of ownership they'll be pushing for more breaks for advertising.

Thought Wednesday at least made a fist of that second half last night and if their right back kept his concentration they would have got a draw

S’oton will get better as the season goes on and definitely be up there for me

Yeah, they're shape and concentration was good right up until that one error.
Reminded me a bit of us when we first came back, going to be a slog where they've got to keep going and battle for every point.
Not every game will be as tough as last night.

The difference in quality showed in the end and cost them, it was also bound to be an ex-Blade who scored after they gave him so much shit coming on

Like you eluded too, our first game back at this level against Bristol City in 2020 was very similar

We played football on the front foot at Bristol that day though

Its nice to see regular yoyo teams like West Brom, Norwich, Watford not fancied at all. Hate parachute payments but just shows what happens if you don't get it right straight away. Can see them all being stuck here for a while and I hope so too as they always stunk the joint out in the Prem.

You mean got beat by teams with much greater resource? These clubs you mentioned didn’t have the money to compete above and had too much for the league below. What do you expect of them? Form their own league?

I think Baggies are fucked, only added one transfer and one loan to a pretty average and ageing side

Nope I mean what I said, not all teams that go up are boring and shite but I'm sure they'll appreciate you sticking up for them.

Southampton look to have the best squad as long as they don't get raided. Leeds potentially could be the team that flops out of the 3.

Still quite strong I think!... signed an international winger and Josh Maja... not lost many and willing to let Gardner-Hickman (one of their better players last year) leave and Manager overruled a 2.5 mil sale of Alex Palmer to Luton. Dike fit again too.

Interesting to see the battle of the US international strikers this season. Wright vs Sargent vs Dike.

Good manager I’ll give them that but I couldn’t really point out many of their players I’d swap for many of ours
