The pricing is terrible , I couldn't give a shiny hoop about revenues , I'm a customer not a financial advisor

Exactly, you’re not running a football club spending millions on players with a stated aim of getting to the premiership.

From the clubs perspective, there was apparently evidence of people abusing the previous pricing regime that was relatively more generous to concessions. Therefore, they’ve clamped down on that. Have they gone too far? In areas, they probably have.

A lot of ‘customers’ want to have their cake and eat it. They want a premium product without paying premium prices. That’s a culture change we have to get used to. Get in early to get in cheap.

Sunderland averaged 2600 away last season , best away support in the division numbers wise , if they aren't selling our coventry then you'd have to ask why
Their feel good factor has waned a little which will be a factor, the ticket prices is probably the main one though. Was anywhere in the Championship that much last season?

For adults maybe , but not for kids

No, what I am saying is if you did reduce kids prices you’d either have to replace that income from elsewhere (where?) or cut expenditure

Well conversely you don’t know if you’d gain more by offering them cheaper. If we sell even 1,500 every game this season that’s only just over £600,000 we’d sell the same at least at half that price so the revenue in a multi million turnover is very small

I'm a little concerned that the ownership can seemingly charge what they like and some fans are comfortable with it because he's putting the money we made on players back in the club (not his own cash ).. weird stance

No, but I pay for my brother’s season tickets who is a concession. I did not want to pay for £1,000 for two PL packages, so got our STs in the family zone.

I’m moving down to London and my brother plays rugby most Saturday’s - we signed up nonetheless despite potentially missing a few games.

It was more the phrase “I don’t care about revenues” that I objected to. We should all care.

If we had more in the past we might’ve not just had 20 years of hell

So you benefit from cheap tickets in a zone that's not accessible to fans anymore because its sold out .. your opinion is really not needed

You pay £2.17 in the family zone for a kid per game am I correct ? I pay more for my 2 kids than you do for you and your brother

Maybe you are the problem and you should be giving more to the club , after all we need to get to the Premier league

People missing the point that these higher prices WON'T result in higher revenues if people refuse to pay it. The 1st cat A game of the season there are poor matchday sales and an away fan boycott. What are people missing here?

Other people who were willing to commit could have also benefitted from cheap tickets - that’s the point.

I find it ironic that you’re all for exclusivity of the away points system on the grounds of commitment - very valid argument that I agree with you on now, btw. Yet, accessibility to cheap tickets should be universal for the day trippers?

For away fans, I genuinely sympathise with as they don’t have the same option as us. For home fans, season ticket prices are very reasonable and the family zone was a steal.

Again , the family zone is sold out and not available for people anymore , you benefit from cheap tickets not available to people anymore even if they wanted to go

I travelled to 22 including the playoffs away games last season hence why my points are far higher than yours , because I do that every season .

Because I have a season ticket doesn't mean I think the club are reasonable for ripping kids off , your argument is all over the place , infact I've come ro the conclusion you don't have one , you just want to argue for the sake of it

Are there poor matchday sales?

Bank holiday weekend, nothing directly riding on the game, 22k+ home fans in attendance. How many were you expecting?

We are a club on the up and attendances are rising. Doesnt mean the club couldn't get loads more through the door .. this is hard Jesus wept

I understand what you’re saying, honestly I do. I’m playing devils advocate slightly.

I just find it hilarious that people think 22k home fans is poor

The other point on pricing is you generally don’t just charge what you can. It is positioned against benchmark competition - we are it seems miles out on that measure here

OK I will twist it , 22k home fans would be about mid table in the league .. we could be getting 26/27k a week riding the crest of a wave should prices be more reasonable.

22k is average for this league now

Well it's not in an historical context, clearly, but relatively it's not great.

The go to justification for these high cat A prices is always, yeah but these are the big games, the games people want to see, they will pay it blah blah.

A number of times last season cat A attendances were very disappointing. The 1st cat A game this season and we're looking at a lower turn out than Boro, a 12.30 kick off that was live on sky. In that sense, it is very disappointing.

The point is, would we get a bigger gate if Saturday was at cat B pricing? Well yes, obviously we would. There wouldn't be an away fans boycott for a start.

Lets have it right - Sunderland 3pm should be a bigger gate than a televised noon game

Kids prices need a rethink - Say 200 pitch up for a tenner less ie £15.

Thats 2 grand Doug prob drops behind the bar on a good night- Its hardly gonna stop the club reaching the promised land

What money has doug put in anyway of his own ?

We made 35 million from 2 players , which 20 has gone back into the team atm

There is no chance there will be more home fans for the Sunderland game than the Boro game, it will be less and like you say, should be a lot more given it's not televised.

These prices are biting, but people still trying to argue they are not, so going round in circles. Club have made an error here but can't do anything about it until next season anyway so nothing anyone can do so guess we've just got to roll with it.

You seem a bit blinkered on this issue! Some of your points have value, but they lose their effect by your exaggeration of other points you make. If come Saturday Sunderland do only bring 2.5k or so then your viewpoint will be backed up to a degree. However, combining that with the viewpoint that our attendance should automatically be higher in our non televised 2nd game is not backed up by recent evidence. The first game of the season generally attracts more home supporters than the following game, regardless of it being televised. You only have to look to two seasons ago when our first game was also televised, but our 2nd game which was not had an attendance drop of nearly 4,500!

We’re not looking at a lower turn out though.

Let’s see how many are at the Huddersfield game

We’ll end up with a higher attendance v Sunderland this weekend than last season…

I have followed this thread with interest from a position that it doesn’t affect me. No dog In this fight.
The argument is complicated by the investment that needs to be made in the club to get it up to par let alone up the upper echelons of this league and the fact is that our revenue lags behind so many of the clubs.
We have capacity within our stadium to accommodate kids so it’s not difficult to fill a seat at a fiver that would be empty if the seat next to it is paying full price and everybody benefits and we are indoctrinating the next generation at the same time. We are not that blessed with full houses that we dismiss this potential support.
There will be a time when we are scratching around to fill seats at midweek games or unattractive fixtures. We should be discounting heavily for these games. Forget categories use the data that guides you to sensible decisions.

Season ticket prices are reasonable but not if you can only make about 8 or 10 games a season due to a variety of circumstances , you’re not getting the point for many.

For home fans, yes we are.

No we’re not. We’ve currently sold around 20.5k non corporate home tickets. Even with a Conservative estimate of corporate being half full, that brings us to 22k home fans. With 5 days of sale still to go

Against Boro, there were 22.2K home fans in total. This was with most of block 27 sold and much of blocks 4 and 5. They have not been opened yet 😂. Fine, we're arguing about something we can verify in few days when the numbers are confirmed. Regardless, whether we match the Boro numbers or not, they should be considerably higher for this game.
