I mean if we’re a team that wants to get promoted, I think he’s more a rotation or backup option at that level.
My point was there is no one better at the club at this moment in time. So who is he back up for?

If you think he's not good enough for a team that wants promotion, then your season is over already.

If he doesn’t perform he will lose his place. Goes for all 3 of them, a bit of competition in the squad isn’t a bad thing.

He was in the team that lost out on promotion to a penalty .. this argument doesn't hold up
Didn’t get promoted though did it.

If you want to build a squad that can compete for automatics and be confident in the playoffs I’m not sure he starts.

That’s the point I’m trying to make. A lot people on here seem to think Simms can underperform but still keep his place as it might dent his confidence. Imagine if Godden had played like he has, they would be saying he’s past it blah blah blah.

Godden is almost an old fashioned striker. He relies on his clever runs, intellgience and finishing. He's not pacey, doesn't dribble and isn't a battering ram. I have no doubt he would score goals in the Premier League if he was give the right role, and decent service.
The goal he scored against Derby away during the 21/22 season, when he played a series of one-twos with O'Hare was absolutely superb. As was the stretching finish at Millwall last season. I felt for him at the tail end of last season. Our threadbare squad meant he had to play a kind of second striker role, all to supply Vik.
Our breakaway style really didn't suit him last season. If we continue to be more possession-based, his intelligent movement should pay dividends for him and our other strikers.

I said he looked sharp in the Exeter game and someone replied to say he looked like a competition winner...👀

Also remember we paid under a million, £750,000 for Godden. If you look at his minutes per goal average rather than just games, he's been an absolute steal. And as of right now with him scoring every game, he's very much the first name on the team sheet, and long may it continue!!

That’s a strange one. I bet I have bigger balls than you, long and gangly too.

I speak for the present. At the moment, none of them are keeping him out. Rightly so the best finisher we have is leading the line.
Best hair, too. Although I expect that the others will learn a lot from him (about hair-do's and football).

It’s his movement that sets him sort for me. He’s also a confidence player, after this start he could really be on it.
