I stood down the front of the Sky blue terrace in those days. Only a few times in the West End, which was not an hospitable place for a 5ft teenage girl.

I used to stand on the Kop as a 'youth' in the 70's, then when they made it the East Stand and put seats in, I had the seat n the same place.
I had that right up until they closed the ground, and I bought two seats E19 and E20.
I think Callista on here has one of them now.

So you stuck to one place in ground, even when they put the seats in! I was the opposite - I had long spells (years) on the Kop, the crow's nest, in the Main Stand, and the West End (before and after seating), but I literally don't think there was any part of Highfield Road I didn't watch games from at one time or another.

By the way, I really wish I had one of the seats, but it wasn't me I'm afraid :)

Lovely, it was a nice ground in its day.

Id argue it still was even when we left

None of it was falling down, none of it was unsafe, it had all been re-seated and spruced up when the East Stand was rebuilt, 11 years before they flattened the place

Id argue that if we were still there, 18 years after we left, only now would it start to become a bit of a dive.

The facilities were fairly poor and the view from some of the seats poor and huge parts of the ground stunk of piss

Yes it was 'boisterous' in the West End, and looking back with 21st Century eyes the atmosphere at football matches was prehistoric really. To most people, it seemed prehistoric even at the time to be honest.

This must be one of the last times HR was full in its pre all seater days.

When the likes of Luton are playing in the premier league at their utter ramshackle community centre, I feel HR would have been fine for us for another decade at least

At the time is was ok for our needs and for many of the years following the one feature it has over the current arena is that it was the clubs.

The old girl was looking more than a little frayed around her edges but I thought it still looked cool even at the end Saddlebrains.

they were there all the way - behind the terrace
I remember watching Stuart Pearce's debut in one of them
This is the picture I was thinking about. Definitely no boxes in the Main Stand at that point

Fuck me what a pic that is? When was this? I was born in 90 so seeing stuff like this amazes me
The floodlights were added in 1957 so it must be after that. Can't be long after it though judging by the van and lack of TV aerials on the houses

I was 7 in 1960 and I would say that picture predates that.

I can't make out what the model of the car is in the background parked up outside what became the apprentices living accomodation which may give a clearer indication of when the photo was taken.

Anyone got an idea?
