Safe standing eh?
So you stuck to one place in ground, even when they put the seats in! I was the opposite - I had long spells (years) on the Kop, the crow's nest, in the Main Stand, and the West End (before and after seating), but I literally don't think there was any part of Highfield Road I didn't watch games from at one time or another.I used to stand on the Kop as a 'youth' in the 70's, then when they made it the East Stand and put seats in, I had the seat n the same place.
I had that right up until they closed the ground, and I bought two seats E19 and E20.
I think Callista on here has one of them now.
Lovely, it was a nice ground in its day.
Do you know when this was taken?
Id argue it still was even when we left
None of it was falling down, none of it was unsafe, it had all been re-seated and spruced up when the East Stand was rebuilt, 11 years before they flattened the place
Id argue that if we were still there, 18 years after we left, only now would it start to become a bit of a dive.
Judging by the mess of it, it’s after the seating fiasco where they’ve made a half arsed attempt to convert it back to standing
It was during the 1987/88 seasonDo you know when this was taken?
The facilities were fairly poor and the view from some of the seats poor and huge parts of the ground stunk of piss
mullet central
Yes it was 'boisterous' in the West End, and looking back with 21st Century eyes the atmosphere at football matches was prehistoric really. To most people, it seemed prehistoric even at the time to be honest.I stood down the front of the Sky blue terrace in those days. Only a few times in the West End, which was not an hospitable place for a 5ft teenage girl.
yeah there's a lad to the right with the original hummel shirt onIt was during the 1987/88 season
When the likes of Luton are playing in the premier league at their utter ramshackle community centre, I feel HR would have been fine for us for another decade at least
yeah there's a lad to the right with the original hummel shirt on
apologies then, it was someone on here who had it, yep i just loved being on the Kop even when sat downSo you stuck to one place in ground, even when they put the seats in! By the way, I really wish I had one of the seats, but it wasn't me I'm afraid
You know what, the one on the right of the two lads with the Hummel shirts on , I think might be me , looks like me back in the day.yeah there's a lad to the right with the original hummel shirt on
they were there all the way - behind the terraceWhen did those boxes go in at the front of the Main Stand?
I remember seeing pictures of it in the early 70s and the Main Stand had a terrace at the front of it then
This must be one of the last times HR was full in its pre all seater days.
The old girl was looking more than a little frayed around her edges but I thought it still looked cool even at the end Saddlebrains.Id argue it still was even when we left

This is how i remember it tbh

That row at the bottom were boxes. The terrace in front of it had seats put in about 2 or 3 rows and where I saw my first game from. This is the picture I was thinking about. Definitely no boxes in the Main Stand at that point

The floodlights were added in 1957 so it must be after that. Can't be long after it though judging by the van and lack of TV aerials on the housesFuck me what a pic that is? When was this? I was born in 90 so seeing stuff like this amazes me
I was 7 in 1960 and I would say that picture predates that.Fuck me what a pic that is? When was this? I was born in 90 so seeing stuff like this amazes me
