From what I've seen of Latibeaudaire I wouldn't be too concerned with him sitting in front of the defence until Sheaf is fit . He reads the game , loves a tackle and is a good talker on the pitch . You could see him tonight urging the midfield not to drop too deep
Yep, totally agree. He has shown natural leadership, he could be a great anchor man imo and has good feet too. Trouble is Sakamoto is no where as good as him defensively if he goes out wide.

Well we’re going to have to accept a weakness either in central midfield or right back. I know which is the lesser evil personally

I thought there would be more praise for DaSilva, he was our only outlet for a lot of the game and is so tidy and composed on the ball.

Lati is clearly not a RWB, but did an excellent job in still offering something offensively, which I doubt many out of position CB’s could do.

I thought Eccles stepped up once Kelly went off, especially as until HT he was essentially a one man midfield as Allen looks unsure positionally and Ayari was hiding.

Thomas is a bit of a liability, he’s either great on the ball or over ambitious and loses it. There’s clearly a lot of potential there though.

I heard a few people slating Simms as I was walking out; until the midfield changed and we lost our shape and purpose I thought he looked positive.

Great finish from Wright but his meandering around the last 5/10 annoyed me - he should have been closing down everything!

He's so good on the ball, and he is always an outlet moving it so quickly. I envisage he and Sheaf will link up well with quick ball movement and ability to retain it in tight spaces. One concern is I am yet to be convinced of his crossing so far

Wilson our best player, Da Silva and Binks look good on the left. I know we hung on a bit, but a clean sheet against Blackburn is not to be sniffed at.

Kelly and Eccles are too similar I'm the middle and we lack any creativity there, which I think.is why we are playing slower through the phases. Ayari has a touch of quality about him, but its clear he is developing, by the end of the season he will be very good.

Simms and Godden were both feeding off scraps last night, but the work Godden gets through out of possession is huge and Simms is starting to look sharper, stronger and more aware of what's expected of him.

Thought Wright looked poor, but did take his goal well. When he didn't go to the corner at the end and took the shot, I wanted to punch him in his balls. Use your head, man, kill the game and don't take a left footed shot across the keeper running away from goal.

I think the crowd made his mind up for him tbh to go for it

I thought it was reasonable for him to go for the shot but he just didn't hit it well. Every striker mishits a shot sometimes. In reality blasting it over the bar would have been better than what he did though as it allowed them to get the ball forward quicker.

Wilson - 8 couple of big saves (again)

Lati - 7 excellent considering not usual position
Thomas - 6 worst player on pitch first half, but pretty solid 2nd half
Fadz - 7 nothing jumps out
Binks - 7 again nothing major, looks good with ball
Dasilva - 7 solid again, quickly becoming our most consistent player

Eccles - 6 in an ideal world wouldnt be starting but good enough cover, is a passenger too often
Kelly - 6 looked better with him on pitch than off it i thought
Allen - 8 boy we've missed him, works had, wins ball back and then drives forward with it

Simms - 6 feeding off scraps, never really had a chance
Godden - 7 as above but worked tirelessly closing down etc

Ayari - 6 took him quite a while to get into game, but his strike was very Hamer-esque, maybe just needs more minutes
Others not really on long enough, great finish by Wright but needs to improve for me, comes across as lazy, that needs changing

Let’s not be too harsh on Eccles once Kelly went off he had to change his game, he gave barrier in front of our defence and not a lot of support Ayari.
I wasn't trying to be too harsh on him but at times he gets into trouble through lack of awareness. He got caught a few times waiting for the ball to come to him instead of going to meet it and it ended with their player collecting the ball so he just needs to sharpen up. At times he looks good but he is after all when everyone is fit our 3rd choice and he needs experience beside him and now thats not going to happen for a while

I really do not understand the criticism of Eccles. He made a crucial interception late on last night to send Wright on his way. If he was playing next to Hamer for example he would look so much better. He also offers us good cover at WB. Granted his set pieces are terrible and I'd happily never see him on those again.

Wilson 9

Clean sheet, tipped one on to the bar, couple of sharp saves, came out quickly, kicking good…..

Lati 8

I thought he did well, charged back well to cover on the break and covered defence where necessary. If Kelly is out, and whoever goes CDM is injured during the game, we could possibly play Tats wide right WB with Lati given the instruction to cover from right / CDM.

JDS 8

Many players need “time to gel” but he looks like he’s played for us for a long time. Did well I thought.

Fadz 7

Solid enough.

Thomas 6

Just a bit off the boil.

Binks 8

Solid and looked useful going forward. It’s a start tactic because many teams have no idea nowadays what to do when a CB charges forward; players are so well drilled to mark their player that they dare not leave their mark. Let’s see if this continues or Norwich are prepared next week.

Kelly 6

Did ok. We will miss him since our midfield cover is so limited.

Eccles 6

Mixed performance

Allen 8

I’m not a huge fan but he’s the oil in the machine in midfield. He’s more flank-to-flank than box-to-box and that enables the wing backs to give and go. His closing down was also good.

Sims 6

Put himself about.

Godden 7

A more rounded performance than many before.

Subs:

Wright 6

Scored a chance that any championship striker should have put away. Poor shot on the break towards the end. Doesn’t press the defenders much. When you are a 20 min impact substitute, you run like a maniac. Wright was languid.

Atari 6

Hit the bar so an assist for that. He’ll develop

Others n/a

Spot on about Wright's pressing, he's just not aggressive enough. No way you could currently play him up top on his own as some are advocating.

I think it will be a different story in a few months, I think the raw materials are there to work with and Robins and Adi will improve him.

Give them all a 6, nothing but poor performances, for Wilson what saves he made he let himself down with poor distribution.

hope the team starts to gel as I'm not sure how many more performances like that I want to watch.

He looks a bit lost when doing it - I'll be charitable and suggest he hasn't been asked to before, so he's totally unsure what he's supposed to be doing.

Was a bit of a concern though, as one of the quicker players and with only 20 minutes on the pitch, you'd expect more energy really.

Well thats a bit OTT.

Is it? Once again we were negative, sideways and backwards passing, no runners from midfield ( Lo and behold once one does it we scored), slow and frustrating build up, mis placed passes all over the show, the result shouldn't hide the fact that we've had 1 good 45 minutes out of the last 4 games

I was actually bored last night, and a lot of people around me the same. Hopefully this changes when we get Callum, Sheaf and MVE back

Gyokeres would have gone for it too, no doubts. I agree I'd rather he went for it.

I'd take 1 good 45 minutes every 3 games if we are picking up 7 points in the process.

Performance = trend of where points will go though (although FWIW I've thought we've played better and lost or drawn this season, so swings and roundabouts. We did also hit the bar a ncouple of other times, so not a total smash and grab anyway).

Thanks for that insight.

Far too many 7s and 8s floating around this thread for what was a largely poor performance after the first 20 mins.
You really believe Ayari was better than Kelly and Latibeaudiere? Apart from the goal Ayari was anonymous. We missed Kelly massively when he went off. We were largely in control in midfield until then but looked lost when he went off. What did Latibeaudiere do wrong?

I would probably have given Ayari a 5 without his involvement in the goal.

Lati was poor going forward, didn’t use the width or offer anything offensively.

Hard to rate Kelly in that limited time so I gave him the average.

You've written him off and won't judge him properly, he was very good last night in a poor team display

Latibeaudiere? I haven’t at all, he’s changed my opinion and is a good option at CB. Just too defensive to play at wing back.
Yet many times last night he was the furthest player forward and linked up successfully in and around the box . He's not a rwb but last night he was as good as Da Silva was on his side

He got the ball in offensive positions and always played the safe option back inside. Don’t think he even made a cross.

Watch the game back , he put quite a few crosses , played nice forward 1-2s around the box and drove into dangerous areas .
