This is the ultimate irony. The people unquestionably supporting Israel to do what they like will also likely being the ones kicking up the most fuss when they start arriving on our shores in small boats.

Mmm I can smell chips

The way I see it, the former UN split it up a bit more in favour of Israel 35/65 %. The Palestinians did it like it even though it’s more land then they will ever use. They started a war and lost, usually when you loose a war you loose land. The land was previously occupied by anyone and everyone. The Israel’s have occupied and pushed more in to it than they need to. They don’t want the Palestinians to ever be a threat to them again, understandable considering what Jews have been through. The problem is the Palestinians don’t want the Israelis to exist, their entire wish it to see them gone full stop. They are now run by a terrorist organisation plain and simple. The yanks have billions in loans to Israel repayable so they have a vested interest in them prospering. On balance I say people who murder civilians and behead babies looking them in the eye need wiping off the face of the planet.

The Swedish woman I work with is Jewish and her husband is Israeli, they lived there before moving to the UK. She and him used to do charitable work for people living in Gaza, I don't think she'd be quite on board with this nihilistic idea that killing many innocent women and children is a price worth paying for crushing Hamas.
The idea that they deserve it for "voting for Hamas" is a bit fanciful given the average age is 18. The last election was in 2006.

To let Palestine exist as a sovereign nation whist Hamas rule would be a catastrophic mistake for israel. The can’t and won’t let that nation prosper under that leadership as their whole aim would be to build and conquer Israel.

Ofcourse that's fine , but they'd surely win an election today given support is at or over 60% depending on which region you're in

It's interesting that the land invasion hasn't happened yet and the Rafah crossing looks like it is being opened again. Seems that international pressure may work.

I get it you're never going to give him an credit.

Not acceptable from electoral perspective? In between the statements their lead in the polling went up. People are not going to vote based on this. If you think that the Israel/Hamas conflict and peoples views on it will effect the next GE then I have some magic beans to sell you.

OK then, so with apologies for nagging away, we've moved from panicked reply back to what Starmer says doesn't matter.

If what he says doesn't matter, then it's a bit rich asking for credit for him saying it, which is where this started.

My point remains, everything Starmer says is based on electoral calculus. That's fair enough if all you want in power is some one wearing a Labour badge and nothing else - I was hoping for someone with a bit of integrity and Labour values.

Just to add, and this might surprise you, as a member of the Labour party, I voted for him as leader; back when I thought what he said was what he meant. More fool me.

If you think he's a honest, principled man though, I'll take your magic beans as a down payment on this bridge I'm selling.

When this is over, hopefully sooner rather than later, he's done.

I'd love that but this won't be over any time soon, imho.

Whether it genuinely is or not, it suits the far right in Israel to class this as a perpetual, existential war on terror.

Similarly, Hamas and their ilk will use Israel's excesses in response as their justification for further hideous acts of terror. It seems endless.

I think you're right but when it is they'll be a day of reckoning for Netanyahu.
There were protests against him yesterday attended by families of the hostages and there was a lot of anger towards him, this follows on from the protests against him earlier in the year over his changes to the supreme Court which were huge, he's going to need something special to survive.

Sounds like a George Orwell novel Charles
Right OK Grendull I'm making stuff up of course. I'm in my 50s and was on my to national portrait gallery to kill some time waiting for my daughter who attends Royal Academy of Music each Saturday afternoon.
Pure coincidence. EDL types suddenly sprung up next to me and were shouting stuff at demo. I saw them later drinking outside weatherspoons as they were being monitored by police.
I did wonder if you might be one of them.

The George Orwell reference was made as the pub in question is called The Moon Under Water Charles

I don't know the answers but as I said in another post, given Israels military capabilities and world renown secret service, isn't there a way that could weed them out without carpet bombing the place?
If there was an easy solution I'm sure it would of been found by now, but this situation has gone on for years and years without being resolved. Even today Hamas has fired more rockets and mortars into Israel.
Israel has said, the action will stop if Hamas stops the continued attack and hands over the hostages. But its still happening.
Why haven't Hamas stopped? It's mental.

Have they said that?

Because they enjoy the power of being terrorists, they also don’t want any other religion to exist.

To be honest mate, you’ve recently done this a bit when someone disagrees with you: just call them the most horrific name you can imagine (pedo, terrorist) and you don’t come off great. If you can’t debate without it, maybe the internet isn’t for you.

I couldn’t give a fuck what jobs you’ve had. Making out online like you’re Mother Theresa and anyone who disagrees must support terrorists and pedos is pathetic behaviour.
