Simms + Wright = ? (10 Viewers)

How many perfect chances did our midfield create that any of the three should've scored today? Not suggesting they've played well, but all feeding off scraps.
I appreciate your optimism but based on what you have seen so far this season what price would you say hadji wright is worth?

Be careful, anything but optimism will get abuse.

I don't think spending £10m on a couple of strikers who can score tap-ins is really the best use of funds.

You pay that money so they can score goals that are more than just handed to them on a plate.

Beginning to think Wright and Kitching were panic buys.

Simms I can understand the logic: proven at this level to a degree, staged fee, young, potential to improve; a calculated risk. That he hasn’t hit the groove yet is a bit surprising given his form last season in this division.

12m plus on Wright and Kitching to sit on the bench? Could have brought in 12 decent 1m prospects to pack the squad with decent cover and potential.

I’m not sure Kitching was a panic buy, I got the impression we’d been looking at him for quite a while. I agree though, it’s bizarre with them both being on the bench and not sure the money has been spent wisely at all.

Maybe the fee we paid was a bit of a panic to get the deal done before the deadline, rather than the signing overall

Kitching worries me less. Good age, was captain and leader which we need more of. Sure he'll improve and be fine. He was carrying a knock when he arrived and not yet perhaps where he should be, but one who will come good. Simms will improve too and probably just needs some confidence and time, I thought he'd turned a corner at QPR but I still think will be ok.

Wright is a concern and at that value I'd like to think we'd have done our homework but having never played in England let alone the Championship it's more difficult to assess. I hope he comes good and I'm not writing him off yet, but does need to settle soon.

Wright was scouted before the end of last season. He said he knew he was coming here during the playoff final.

Simms seems to have been picked up because Everton tried to offload him as part of a Vik offer but Vik didn’t want to go to the Prem.

The original point of the thread was too guess the combined goals total for Simms and Wright. I thought about 27.
The question now might be is 20 too ambitious?

At the moment 20 looks ambitious. On current form it is hard to envisage either getting into double figures. Let's hope they improve considerably and prove us wrong.

They have 4 in 12 after pretty much sharing duties. That is the same as Viktor had after 12 games.

So if that job share continues you'd want them to be scoring 21 between them to match Vik

That's isn't going to be enough

We have a big problem looming with these two - Robins has switched back to a lone striker system and is talking about how it suits Wright. But neither him nor Simms are in form, and neither of them will be content with sitting out most games - I’d be amazed if they signed under that proviso, at least. How long does it last until one of them gets seriously unhappy with their playing time?

Forever. They’re both likely on the most they’ll be able to get anywhere and their earning potential won’t have improved.

Given how much Wright hides on the pitch I doubt he’s the sort of character to be banging on the manager’s door demanding to play.

We basically had 2 forwards last season who scored a combined 29.

This season we still have Godden, and Vik has been replaced by Wright + Simms with an extra £6-7 mil in the bank.

So far they have 9. If they get another 20 then surely that should be considered an excellent return? Based on goals so far they are actually on track even though this is a baron run.

I do wonder who's going to replace Hamer's goals from midfield though.

The obvious problem with your question is that you would always rather have one player in your first XI who can score 20 goals instead of two players who can score 10 - if it takes two players to replace one player's goal output then you have to make compromises elsewhere. Until recently we have been trying to accommodate two strikers who are struggling to score goals, and the whole tactical setup has been suffering as a result.

Not sure it's a huge problem. Godden got a fair few games last season anyway, they can push each other(!) and if one really struggled to play they could go on loan January and hopefully do an Adebola for their City career rather than a Walker.

I did think about this, but I factored in Godden's goals for the 29 goal number - which covers when we had 2 up front. And when we played just Gyokeres with the box midfield, we only really had the 6 Allen goals coming from the 10 position. The issue is still Hamer's goals obviously, but they came from Sheaf/Eccles role.

If we send either Wright or Simms out on loan in January then it will be much, much more difficult to attract top players in the next summer window. Any player with options wants/needs to know their next manager will back them - farming out Wright or Simms sends out the message that we're not really bothered.

I'm not so sure it's any worse than we're not playing them!
