The Brentford/Brighton model (6 Viewers)

There are some on here who seem to suggest changing our newish scouting system, Dean Austin will make us better, do you agree ?

What's that got to do with what I said?

You said we didn't have scouting before Dean Austin, I said you were incorrect.

Today is Monday, do you agree?

To get this thread back on track, can someone define what exactly the “Brighton/Brentford model” is?
Brighton buy develop and then sell on, they sell big every year.
Brentford are a bit different at the moment they don’t have an academy but they hoover up rejects including one from Cov. Talk of them re-starting an academy though.

I don’t think we had a scouting system anything like what’s being developed now, but that doesn’t really bother me it’s these suggestions that getting rid of Dean Austin will make things better, I take it you agree we should, correct ?

More doesn’t necessarily mean better

Buy players cheap and sell for profit. Rinse repeat. We've blown our wad and will be back to freebees and loans in 2 seasons.

So you’re suggesting we don’t follow this model? You want us not to sign cheap players?
We signed Gyokores and Hamer for 2 million combined......but under the new regime we paid 4.5 million for a 5th choice centre half.

So what on earth are you talking about “models” for then? Aren’t the signings of Hamer and Vik in line with the model?

You’re not happy that we’re not winning games. Fine. But stop trying to apportion blame for it because your logic is clearly lacking.

You ain't the brightest are you? We've been incrementally improving for years, spending within our means and making profit from player sales, this season we've spanked millions and millions on players I very much doubt will double or triple in value.

So what are you suggesting we should have done? Spent less? Then moaning myrtles like you would be shitting the forum up with posts about how King pocketed the cash from our sales!

And we have been incrementing it. With the exception of Wright our signings are 2,3,4m instead of the 0-2m we spent in previous years.

OK OK. Explain how we've gone from the lowest spenders in the league to one of the highest (which will be a one off). Hardly incremental. We had 30 million to invest and we've wasted it. I very much doubt we'll get money like that to spend again.

Explain? We sold our two best players (unavoidable when they were both on their last contracted year) and reinvested the money.

What are you suggesting we should have done? Not spent it?

You forget Hyam Fadz O'Hare Hamer, Sheaf and Gyokores cost less combined that Wright. Our new recruitment team must be happy with that. But according to you, that's a good thing. The delusion is sickly.

Invest it wisely. Low risk high reward. Rather than spunk it all in one window and not be any better.

Why would we sit on the cash? Again, there would’ve been widespread outrage if we didn’t spend after selling our best players.

If we could reliably sign £10-£20m quality players for £1-2m we would have the best scouting department in the world.

Get a grip.

And that's the reason you have a massive overdraft.

Not sure you get the point. To continue the trend means making profit on the players we have just bought. We might well make some on some of them (Van Ewick maybe).
But the reason we don’t look like profiting right now is they’re not performing, which obviously wasn’t the intention.

If you’re going to criticise the “model” you need to critique the intentions, not the outcomes.

Well yeah you can discuss the outcomes and if the model works or not.

But we are shopping for the championship if we get promotion to the Premiership chances are we will be in the market for a whole load of new players again and it’s a totally different market.

The players mentioned previously were signed in the Championship too, what are you talking about?
