Sounds like Sunak is safe for a while. This meeting of the far right Tories looks to be an anticlimax, reported about only 8 MP’s have turned up although they’re claiming more are joining on zoom. About the most interesting thing about it was that 50p Lee turned up to it. Maybe another resignation in the offing.

Tbf she had a divided party and her legacy was failure of a Brexit deal, that I don't think anyone at that time could've feasibily delivered. Wrong time only imo. She has more integrity than many of those before or after her and I think if she was PM now then we'd be in a far better place. I genuinely believe in different circumstances that she could've been a very good leader. Reading the past few pages of balanced opinion about the horrible Tories, I'll not expect any likes for this, as my first post on this thread for ages. I think I'll go back into hibernation now.

I agree with you about the hand she was dealt. She was the best of the post 2010 prime ministers.

The Tories have been an utter disaster all in all though.

Integrity? She who started hostile environment, tried illegally to strip Windrush generation individuals of their means of staying here and refused to meet anyone at Grenfell and stayed behind the police lines showing no compassion. Hardly screams integrity to me.

May did some good stuff, tried to tackle the social care crisis and nearly lost her job for it, did good work on modern slavery, and did the absolute best Brexit deal given the ludicrous constraints put on her.

I mean, still a Tory, but I think I’d have trouble coming up with a similar small list for the others.

It's no good laughing at the comment really is it Grendel, the comments accurate as far as I can tell?
The style of bravermen being that of the sub continent, she wouldn't have had a chance allowed her if Enoch had succeeded, England's still not ready I think.

How did she try to tackle the social care crisis? She certainly did not succeed. She was consumed with Brexit and I think when the covid enquiry reports her failure to ensure proper planning for a pandemic means her legacy will be that she was one of the key reasons for the high deathtoll. Her Government explicitly failed to respond to a report saying we needed to have a plan, including things like PPE. The more I think about it the worse I realise she was.

Oh and let's not forget the vans she sanctioned to go around in North London telling immigrants to 'go home'. She was the precursor and laid the ground for Patel and Braverman. Such integrity!

She put forward an actual plan to fund it which is more than anyone else in the last thirty years. Then it nearly cost her the election against Corbyn and it had to be dropped. I’m not saying she’s the worlds greatest PM. I’m saying she tried to do some good things. Which is more than the other four.

She was better than the other four but she was truly horrendous.

She started all the nonsense about leaving the European Convention on Human Rights and her stupid red lines on Brexit meant that staying in the single market couldn't happen. Her reign was very damaging.

That’s the problem with politics and to some extent a lot of the public. We have glaring issues in society but when someone acknowledges it and suggests a potential solution which might cost us, everyone jumps on it….usually without any credible alternative….so problems don’t get solved and issues get worse

It was the same when NIC got raised to cover an increase in social and initially health care. Everyone up in arms. People need to understand, we live longer, need more care so unfortunately are going to have to put more in the pot to cover it.

Not saying Mays was the ideal solution but at least she had the balls to try to address it. The mistake she made was putting it in the manifiesto. She should’ve just proposed it at a later date, but from memory, I think this was her way of forcing something through against dissenting voices within her own party ie got mandate from country via election. Didn’t go to plan !

It’s a tough one because where the line between democracy and autocracy? I do think there needs to be some “A or B pick one” moment for some things. Politicians of all stripes too keen to kick thorny problems into the long grass.

Her red lines were clearly an agreement with the Brexit hardliners for Ledsom to drop out leaving her as PM. If she had any sense she would have been the one dropping out leaving a leaver to deal with the mess that brexit was always going to be. She was never going to be allowed to deliver brexit, she was only ever there as they needed someone to blame for the mess. As someone once said she was offered up as some sort of pallet cleanser ahead of a leaver taking the reins. Kind of ironic that it ended up being Boris taking up the reins who resigned over May’s first brexit deal which ultimately ended up being the one he ended up delivering himself. Although I suspect that there was more detail in the May version.

What that we're now witnessing a genocide and can't say as such?

You can say it without getting irrationally angry at an interviewer for doing his job. He just had to say yes and move on. And that’s why he can’t do politics. He’s so easy to bait.

So, I take it we don’t need to keep questioning why Corbyn didn’t get elected after his Piers Morgan interview?

Had to watch it after your post. Reaffirmed my view of him being unelectable, even if some of his policies would’ve been for the greater good. What was also concerning was Len speaking on his behalf, almost trying to protect him knowing that Corbo wouldn’t /couldn’t answer those specific questions. Possibly an indication of where the power lay during his leadership

Ps his justification for his comment about ‘friend from Hamas’ looks like it’s bullshit as well.
