Can someone explain the thought process on how a stuffed octopus toy is somehow and antisemitic trope? I am genuinely baffled.

Some nazi propaganda had a blue octopus representing Jewish control over the world. Everyone is insane these days so that obviously means University Challenge is a secret Nazi sect.

Other cartoons use dehumanizing animal imagery, for example presenting Israel as a dog or a worm devouring the Dome of the Rock. Another presented Israel as a blue octopus wrapping its arms around the al-Aqsa Mosque. Not only is this image of a blue octopus a hateful figure that has its roots in Nazi-era propaganda against the Jewish people, but it is also the second time this artist used such imagery in the Qatari press in less than a year. However, this time the image was arguably more anti-Semitic than its usage back in July, because now the artist saw fit to also give the octopus a hooked nose, skullcap, pointed teeth, and large ears.

That's what I was thinking. I think it's rife in both the Labour and Tory parties to be honest.
I see this story appears to be well down the pecking order on news sites too.

Obviously not Israel/Palestine related, but Islamophobia gone absolutely mad.

BBC News - China: Human Rights Watch accuses Beijing of closing and destroying mosques

There are over 20 million Muslims in China. Seems they want to wipe out all of them 😳

Islam not being singled out in China. Other religions also being subjected to clampdowns. Churches also being destroyed etc.
The extreme measures of reeducation camps seem to be limited to the Muslim ethnic groups but that also has geopolitical context rather than just religion.
But money talks so no govt will seriously challenge the Chinese govt on it - even the Vatican panders to them with an agreement of Chinese Catholic church to remain loyal to the Chinese Communist Party.

50 hostages being released in return for a temporary ceasefire. Don’t know what to make of this. Good news in some respects but the deal Qatar has been talking about literally from the start of this was a complete ceasefire for the return of all hostages. From what I’ve read the government in Israel has been coming under pressure from the families. Pretty clear that this is a token to them to ease some domestic pressures but the reality is the Israeli government doesn’t want a ceasefire. They don’t seem to care about the hostages anymore than Hamas. The danger for the remaining hostages is that Hamas must see that and their lives have just become less valuable.

It’s ultimately good news. These are kids by all accounts. It also goes to show while certain people/parties were playing to their respective crowds* that serious negotiations and discussions were going on behind the scenes to calm things down, whatever might be said in public. These aren’t simple or black and white

Hopefully its the first small step towards some kind of resolution. Unfortunately it feels like a longer term solution is likely to need both Netanyahu/his government and Hamas being removed and I’m not sure how long that might take….hopefully sooner than I think

*obviously in conjunction with a lot of genuine, well meaning people

Biden showing again sensible centre left politics beats out angry shouting every time. Done more for a ceasefire than a million StW members.

He’s the President of the USA, if he isn’t more effective than a million campaigners he’s in the wrong job.

It was more that the campaigners didn’t want him to do what’s been so effective. It’s about the difference between being a politician and a campaigner.

I think the campaigners were also quite keen to prevent 12,000 people from being killed but I’m glad you think it’s been so effective.

It's classic centrism. It's just deferring the murders for 4 days.

Possibly but it also hopefully allows a proper window for aid to get into area, some hostages (all/mainly kids) released and maybe I’m an optimist, but it shows the two sides are talking so there could be further progress in future

Its classic fringe politics. Crow about how moral your totally ineffectual positions would be if they weren’t so ineffectual. The perfect always the enemy of the good.

Fact is the likes of Starmer and Biden have and will achieve more than the likes of Sanders and Corbyn because they’re actually trying to impact the real world and not just play to the gallery.

Bidens approach has been effective. That should be recognised. Same as what he’s done for the US economy. But it’s not a nice clip for social media so no one cares.

How weird that you think people believe in a ceasefire because a favoured politician does

How weird you think that’s the point being made. Do you think Biden didn’t “believe in a ceasefire”?

Political actions aren’t fairies. Clapping your hands won’t make policy come alive.

I'm sure in the long term everybody will remember the brilliant 4 day pause in the Palestinian Genocide.

If he was that good a politician it would be a permanent ceasefire. But we know that won’t happen because it doesn’t serve his or his countries own personal interest.

Early doors it was so obvious. The horror of the Hamas attack meant that the BBC lost its rationality in how they reported on the conflict.

Yep I’d be certain Jeremy Bowen would be one of them having covered things for 40+ years and seen uk and us atrocities first hand and watched the changes from the 70’s which I think is why if there is a side to take in all this it would be the side of peace and of innocent civilians

If you do that you can see this current situation as part of a wider conflict over decades and to also recognise that Hamas actions (however psychotic and inhuman) in terms of deaths and terror are part of war and no worse or more heinous than a guided missile taking out an enemy and their children.

BBC Verify now saying the footage on social media of Palestinians being shot just 30 minutes into the truce is genuine

The BBC Verify team has geolocated this footage of a crowd fleeing south-ward along Salah al-Din road to the east of Al Mughraqa as small arms fire is heard coming from the north.

Wonder if 14000 is enough to avenge the 1200. 40% of those released by Israel under 18. 6000 Palestinians held many without trial many in Israel where they can’t have contact from family

mmmmm

Why? These are the people you love and dream about.
I don't support hamas and killing people you think are traitors/informers while like any killing is wrong it is hardly just a thing that happens there. It happens here you thick c**t.

If you weren't so thick and horny to post murder porn then you'd actually think about what you post
